Been down garden today and garlic is doing excellent, hopefully will have 90 bulbs come june/July.
Noticed the rhubarb poking through and new buds on the currant bushes. Bought a 16ft x 12ft Polytunnel just before Christmas with the plans to grow some toms in there. Saving the greenhouse for a variety of chillis.
Fancy growing ginger this year as I’ve never tried before, has anyone up here had any success?

Where did you get the polytunnel ?

You'll get quite a few tomato plants in a 16x12 tunnel.

Bought from first tunnels.
I know, I’m gonna have to put the feelers out for takers! Mind I made a load of chutney last year that went down well at Christmas

I am considering First Tunnels if I go that route.

Did it take much putting up ?
Bought in October, still in storage! Hopefully will get it up in February, mind it looks quite a task (YouTube video) so I’ve already sounded out my bro in law and nephew for a hand.
The old fella next to me has a few tunnels from them and swears by them, said he’d had his fingers burned before.

I'm still picking nero Kale - the last lot of frosts knacked a fair bit of it mind. Winter cabbage is doing OK.
Also the purple sprouting broccoli is starting to bud.
Still got parsnips in the ground and leeks are still good.
Bought my seed potatoes and onion sets last week from Wilkinson's in the town.
I shall be starting off some chillis and peppers this week in a propagator.

Going to get a greenhouse this year. Looking at either 6x4 or 6x6 if space allows.
Are those with the poly windows as good as a glass one? Rather not have glass with the bairn, plus the seem more expensive than the others.
Any recommendations for one, don't want to be spending shit loads on one, but want one that won't fall to bits in the first bit of bad weather

My rosemary plant in the kitchen sill has begun flowering. Am not used to seeing that this time of the year.
I have a small rosemary plant on the kitchen window sill. Its a sunny position and just gets watered very lightly and not very often but is currently full of green and no flowers.

The herb garden outside is still ok - the mint has died back ages ago but the oregano is fine. The majoram is still there but that is really for the bees when they reappear in the summer

Haway the bees 🐝

Depends how windy/sheltered the site. Polycarbonate is notorious for buckling and blowing out in wind. You will probably need to add some strengthening to the polycarb panels. Tile edging fixed to the framework can help.

Any clues on where to get "hoops" from for raised beds so I can drape netting over to keep the birds/butterflies off?

I've tried the FB marketplace/gumtree but I'm struggling to even find a good search phrase, searching for "hoop" feels dangerous !

Also, anyone chitting yet ?

Ebay -- search for 'cloche hoops'

There's a certain grade of bendy pipe/tubing that you can buy and cut to length.

It is on Youtube
