Burnley Forum

Tbf outside of the 7 or 8 mega-rich clubs, any of the other 12 or 13 are just a bad window away from relegation. Wolves been decent for a good few years and all tits up this year, West Ham and Forest gone from doing ok to struggling again etc. Even Bournemouth starting to slide a bit and I think a lot relies on how they spend the Semenyo money for them next season.

I guess we could potentially breach that top 7 or 8 given our size, but will take a few years and even then its still difficult to keep your top players from the big named clubs once they make their name

It's a huge gamble, but they've bladdered 100 million on "incremental change", maybe it is time to do something different?

I've always said that the the one bit of good fortune / luck I'll accept we've had is getting promoted with virtually no debt and a squad costing 16 million.

That was a hell of a gamble considering what you're up against in the championship.

But even if Burnley can't replicate what we did?

Clubs can look at the types of players we bought and think that doing what we did is a worthwhile path to choose.

This season has been even worse as 2 'big' clubs have come up in Leeds and us. Next season there wont be a club with 40k at home which brings in more in sponsorship and media attention.

I went to Uni at Preston and the majority of the locals there at the time (early 00's) all supported Man Utd and Liverpool. Glory Hunters galore. PNE were challenging us near the top of the Championship at the time. Sad as fuck. Had a couple of mates from Burnley who supported Burnley. They hated Blackburn as much as I hated the Mags.

Brentford are in London and Bournemouth not far. Imagine it’s much easier to attract players
 
People finally starting to realise that the very future of any football club survives or fails on recruitment.
Considering the cost of even an average PL player, it's staggering people didn't see this sooner. The man in my avatar represents what building a successful squad is all about. Nothing has changed in this regard except perhaps the financial punishment for getting it wrong.

All the best players are based Liverpool, Manchester. 45 min drive to Burnley. Bournemouth about 3 hours away from london. It’s not a huge factor. You could equally look at QPR, Charlton and Millwall who haven’t exactly pulled up any trees.

Many years ago I showed, with best known figures, that for what Jack Rodwell cost this football club in transfer fee and salary, we could have employed a scout in every European country for 5 years.
Nowadays, video and data makes this position slightly superfluous but the point stands.

We came to terms with this a long time ago. 10 seasons in the PL and eventually it was our turn.

That's basically the life of a fan of "one of the rest", you are just circling the drain waiting for your turn, enjoy the journey whilst it lasts

I’ll give you Bournemouth but my point about Brentford stands. As for Luton etc I didn’t say it guaranteed success, obviously the clubs have to be well run too.
I would also suggest London is more attractive as a location than the north west

I agree, to an extent, but some teams do "establish" themselves, like Villa have. Man Utd and Spurs could have went last season, if it wasn't for the poor showing of the teams that came up.
