Burnley Forum

I'll never forget the way they went on down there after the 0-0 when Isidor missed the penalties.

Yes, I am bitter and yes, I have plenty of bookmarked posts ready to be bumped when they go down.

They actually haven't spent much less than us which is the most hilarious thing. They've just had to spend the bulk of it on obligations to buy Championship players that are nowhere near good enough for the PL.
There was probably only one team that had a better team than us, Leeds. If where talking about lucky, we best Burnley up here and they got a lucky point at home last season.
Some make the point about our 'easy' start but then another says we've played 6 of the same teams. We've taken 11 points from those games yet they've only taken 4.
I wonder how many games we have to play before people stop saying this and that we have played nobody?😁

They’re not all that, we beat them comfortably, but what they have is momentum and confidence from probably the kindest set of fixtures a promoted team has ever had and that’s massive. If they’d had our fixtures they’d be in a pretty similar position to us.

We've played 6 of the same teams in the first 11 games.

SAFC points from those 6 - 11 points
Burnley points from those 6 - 4 points

Half of the teams we have played they have played.

Its just bitterness they weren't bitter last season when they had premier league players and budget.

Its a shame we didnt beat them or at least get a point. Probably the worst we played all season including the cup game.

Look at our games against them last season and they were far from a long way behind us.

They realised they had no hope of top 2 early kn and went onto the beach a little targeting the play offs. If it clicked for them a little earlier last season then they would have challenged at the top, instead they played a blinder and rested for the play offs and it showed.

This poster knars
Which is something considering a massive chunk of Sunderland fans remain convinced that the wheels came off at the end of last season.

I think this is a really important point.

I remember seeing a list of their projected spending before a ball had been kicked.
They had a lot of spending earmarked because of a "buy if you get promoted clause" for the players they had on loan last season.

The spending they had committed to doing basically are up their entire budget.

I remember looking at who they had to buy and thinking "oh dear..."

I think a lot of the teams struggle to understand we have hardly any debt, we had a squad that cost buttons and with an average wage bill. That coupled with a decent turn over and added spike of premier league money we haven’t spent like clubs coming up in the past and gambled. We could’ve spent it and still go down and it wouldn’t have been as big an issue that clubs like Leeds and Burnley have had. We had so much room due to smart recruitment but also a lot coming from our own academy. It was pretty much the perfect way to come up financially.

We’ve continued to be smart with recruitment, pretty much ever signing we’ve made should we sell will bring a profit. We have a manager that players respect and seems to be heavily detailed oriented that’s given us an edge.

Then there’s the Sol, we’ve heard it from managers in the past the “oil tanker” takes some turning but when you do it’s hard to stop. It’s a bit of a magic combination that I don’t think we’ve ever had all things click in such a way before.

It’s human nature i’m afraid, looking outwards instead of looking inwards, they are excusing their clubs / teams weaknesses and failures by pulling us down, makes em feel better, same applies to the saudi gravy dribblers up the road.

“Blowing out someone else’s candle won’t make yours shine brighter”. Rather sums it up i think.

Long may it continue.

It's a combination of things isn't it? When he took over KLD aimed to balance careful management of the club's finances to get us stable with an emphasis on scouting young talent to build a good team over time at value for money prices. It was either a gamble or a f***ing genius move that he held his nerve when we had a few bumps in the road and had to decide how to challenge for promotion out of the Championship. He mainly kept to his transfer and scouting strategy and banked on us being able to get up somehow, playoffs or whatever, before we lost too many of the prospects we'd developed like Bellingham.

But it paid off so our owner looks like a very clever young man because when we were promoted we had all the financial headroom you could possibly have to sign players who want to be in the Premier League. So far those signings have proved to be very good, not just in terms of quality but in terms of how they've settled in and fight for the cause every week. Pick any player you like as an example but Brobbey is young and had a bit of a tough time at his last club, doesn't get goals straight away but he's kept going, worked hard and gets an incredible equaliser yesterday which is putting him on the way to being a cult hero. Someone must have worked out that he's just the type of player who will be loved by us if he does well.

It also doesn't hurt that KLD found a head coach who was relatively unheralded but has really found his feet with is. Regis is a really good combination for us so far of a continental manager with a fancy name and all the tactics, with the ability to put out a side that fights like hell and gets up people's noses like the good times with Reidy.

It's all rather nice actually

Yep, they spent approx €140m this summer and ended up with a net spend of €100m after the Trafford sale and a couple of other small ones.

By contrast we spent approx €178m and ended up with a net spend of €127m after the Jobe, Watson and Ekwah sales.

So approx €27m more spent by us but when you look at the difference in the quality of player brought in you'd think it was €227m more!

They've also spent poorly, for example Broja who they spent €23m on can't get a start for them and has only played 70 odd minutes off the bench for them all season so far. Bashir Humphreys who they spent €15m on hasn't even been in their squad for the last 3 games and has literally played 2 minutes all season.

That's close to €40m up in smoke!

None of the comments were out of order IMO. This excuse of us having an easy start seems to have spread across the league and stuck. The same fans were the ones telling us there are no easy games in PL the day we got promoted. People are going on like Sunderland should have demanded we play harder teams. It's a fixture list for a reason.

And what do people want us to do about injured opponents? Postpone games until they are fit? Nobody is mentioning Diarra and Alderete being out.

Some decent comments tbh

I also think Burnley and Leeds have started decent they should have more points than they do thankfully they’ve both dropped points at the end

Burnley certainly shouldn't have more points than they do. They've done well to get as many as they have considering they create less and concede more chances than anyone else

The narrative has shifted from easy fixtures to 'they played arsenal without Gyokeres, they are plsying teams after a European game, we didn't'.

Excuse after excuse
Seen loads of people pointing out that Arsenal had a number of players missing through injury so we got lucky.

Ignoring the fact that their injury list was pretty much the same as it was against Atletico Madrid, Palace, Brighton and Burnley and those four all got thumped.

There was an article in the Athletic (I think) that explained how good financially we were because we hadn’t spent loads of seasons in the Championship like some clubs. The spending and wages in the Championship is huge just to stay in, and the longer you are there, the more you spend and get relatively nowt back. We didn’t do that because we came up from L1 and we also had a lot of cheap kids and academy players.

Is a beautiful read, penny is finally dropping with them that we are levels above them.

There's a lot of LUCKY to win the playoffs in their comments.

Luck never came into the playoff games, all down to managing the games and scoring more goals, no luck whatsoever.

LUCKY fixture list start.... 😂 😂 😂 😂 😂 pathetic comments, some decent stuff said from the knowledgeable fans.

There's a little bit of ignorance from them, not mentioning that we were without 2 of our biggest signings as well, but it fair enough cos it's not their club. But there are some sensible comments in there as well, one posters realises that the 24 points gap wasn't a true reflection of the two teams last season

Those of the who are still trotting out "Coventry and Sheffield should have easily beaten them in the play offs." will never get it.

Even the so called Premier League "experts" have only just realised that we score a lot of point/match winning goals in the final minutes of a game . I have consistently said since the second leg against Coventry that it's neither just luck or a coincidence. The git big banned saying "Till the End" was for the players' not the fans' benefit.
