Then you have Huddersfield, Bradford, Bolton and Preston who are on a similar level to Burnley but still close enough to bleed some support if there are family connections or they are in the premier league while Burnley are struggling.

I wasn't counting clubs in that area that are smaller and historically worse than Burnley. Oldham, Rochdale, Salford City and (previously) Bury would all fit this mold before we start going deeper into non-league.

Blackburn is their big derby. They don't like Preston either but Blackpool is Preston's big derby. Halifax hate Burnley too but I don't think Burnley care about them.

They also have a loyal local fanbase. A lot of people in Burnley support their local team unlike Preston who all support Liverpool and Man U.

And a strategy to match their size because at the moment their transfer business resembles that of a West Brom, Norwich, type club, not a club trying to turn their fortunes around long term. Because there’s no reason when a club their size is managed right they cant be in the PL consistently look at Brighton Bournemouth Brentford for example.

I think those clubs benefit from being in the south. It's not impossible, but I think it's harder for smaller northern clubs to succeed.

I used to play in a five a side team with two Richards, Big Dick and Little Dick. Big Dick was from Burnley and Little Dick was from Blackburn. We weren't a bad side actually, but there was little in the way of any social element after the matches. :)

I don't think you can class their crowds as poor, relative to their catchment area.

Inevitably their crowds will tail off this season as relegation is now confirmed and they are getting beat every week. As would our crowds.

Ours almost halved in 45 mins on Friday night

Seen a few times now that he apparently had a massive bonus for keeping them up and a break clause if they went back down, may have accepted they were fucked regardless and saved money on sacking him
