I flew into Heathrow last Monday and saw the BOAC 747 taxiing. Magnificent sight.
The next of the retrojets - the BEA Airbus - comes into service today.

That livery was retired 22 years ago. Initially the replacement livery included 'world tails' - with ethnic designs to signify 'Global Britain' - but then the entire fleet adopted the tail design intended only for Concorde.

This will be the final one, the 'Negus'. I flew on 747s in this livery countless times as a kid in the early 80s. Awful food and movies on the single screen in each cabin that you could only see if you were near the front. This was the nationalized era when cost-cutting eventually went as far as dropping the use of 'airways' on the sides of the plane to save on blue paint.
