Brighton fan in peace

Sunderland were definitely the better team in the first half, and we were better in the second.

As I said on the podcast, you played us at a brilliant time with no Dunk, Gomez, Baleba and then Welbeck getting injured as well. It was really obvious that the XI was thrown together from what we had left.

We were very poor in the first half and you can see both sides were missing some of their better players.

Having said that, you were very organised and physical throughout which frustrated our pattern of play. We definetly got better with Milner and Mitoma on the pitch, with plenty of decent chance, but it’s obvious we are crying out for another striker and can’t rely on Wele.

If I had to pick a winner, I think it should have been us, but a draw was probably a fair result as Bart did make a great save just after half time.

I’m really pleased Watson got on, I’ve got a nice photo of him clapping the away end, but don’t know how to upload it.

Would love to know all your thoughts about the city and the stadium.

Safe journeys home for all of you.
Lovely ground, lovely people.
Wouldn't fancy the train every match like.
Back in , ahem , Wetherspoons now as it seems a natural meeting point l.

Hope this helps mate.

They were missing 4/5 key first team players. We were missing at least 4 starters. I would say it balanced out in the end and could explain the lack of attacking quality for both sides. 0-0 seems about right.

Firstly, good luck on Sunday. I’m sure most of the footballing world would be delighted if you can secure all three points. You’ve been a breath of fresh air since being promoted.

I’m also completely biased as I’m married to a Mackem and was delighted when you got promoted in May.

Anyway, Brighton STH very much in peace, looking ahead to our fixture next Saturday at the AMEX.

Happy to answer any questions about your upcoming visit.

It’s only your second visit to our ‘new’ home. Your first was in the League Cup way back in 2011 when you were only the fourth side to come and visit. It’s also the first time we’ll have played each other in the league since 2005. That fixture was at the Withdean in the season you won the Championship. The last time we hosted you before that was in 1992. There can’t have been many fixtures where the last three league meetings have been at three different home grounds!

Brighton, as many of you will know is a fantastic city with lots of places to eat and drink whilst enjoying a long weekend. Unfortunately, with the stadium being where it is (not in the city centre, another long story), places close to the ground are limited.

Your best best is to drink in Brighton (or alternatively Lewes) and then utilise the free travel that is included your match ticket. The stadium has a dedicated railway station - Falmer - train travel is free on matchdays to and from Brighton (and other nearby stations).

The only place to drink around the ground that welcomes away fans is Sussex University’s student bar (it is very good). It’s not in the city but a 10 minute walk to the ground.

The city itself is full of amazing pubs with something for everything but just allow enough time to get the train to the ground if you do this.

I’ll revert back to this thread with some suggestions of pubs but very happy to answer any questions you may have in the meantime about travel etc.

HTL.

We probablys should of been a couple of goals up before you's got into the game but for us fluffing our big chances.

We ran out of steam and didnt have anyone to bring on to lift us and you's got on top a bit. I expected you's to snatch it at the end as we were flagging.

Cracking point for us tho so cant argue with it really.

Yeah it was an opportunity

However I feel you also had a chance to play a side who’s lost the most players to AFCON which didn’t seem to affect us

I think we had the best first half and you maybe the 20 minutes of the second half one of your lads should have had about 10 goals 😂 other parts of the game was scrappy. We are difficult to beat and break down

All the best for the season ahead.

Lovely away day. Brighton fans were great, very welcoming and fair - even when we cheered Chelsea’s equaliser against the visitors (apparently they don’t like Chelsea) nice ground, well organised getting in and out and decent scran (our lad declared the chicken burger the best he’s had). Think a point was fair overall

Watson seemed to have a Sunderland shirt that he swapped at the end of- whose was it?

Being southern based (and having lived in Hastings for a while) I love all the Sussex coastal towns including Brighton. I’ve been to the Amex before to see SAFC (2011), a Brighton v Everton game, and your lasses a couple of times. When I lived in Hastings and drove to Brighton I used to love seeing the Amex going up girder by girder, this was about 15 years ago. The club has done so well and I hear there’s plans now for a second stadium nearby. And the training ground at Lancing is by all accounts awesome. Love the fanzone and was told today that there’s a new corporate lounge being built at the opposite end from our fans. Draw a fair result IMHO.

Thank you. I think, because I’ve seen Albion right at the very bottom, to the very top. (I’ve watched us in 92nd place, and also 1st), I’ve just grown to appreciate what football is all about more as I’ve got older.

And also, put simply, it’s nice to be nice.

Yep, I think this is fair. Mitoma coming back for us is massive because he is a world beater.

I agree that your depth wasn’t there, but that’s obvious because of AFCON.
Decent poster, glad to have you here 👍

Thanks. As above, I love the city of Sunderland and its people, really looking forward to the return fixture.

If Ayari could shoot, he would not be a Brighton player, should have buried at least one of his chances, but that is the story of our season!

My wife outed herself before the game by cheering when Chelsea scored. I can’t stand them because they keep buying all our players (but do pay billions for the privilege) so it’s more funny than anything else.

No idea, I’ll try and find out.

Nice one. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit our training ground and it is absolutely immense. It’s an absolute Mecca of football preparation and really shows a pathway for youth team players now.

I agree about the ground, every single week I used to go up there and see it being built, brick by brick.

Yes, it’s not in the best location, but we had no choice (I won’t get political here!) but it took TWO public inquires and for the Deputy Prime Minister to get involved after being homeless for fourteen years.

Still, every time we go, I take a picture and think, we, the fans did that. Pretty amazing stuff really.
