It’s only your second visit to our ‘new’ home. Your first was in the League Cup way back in 2011 when you were only the fourth side to come and visit. It’s also the first time we’ll have played each other in the league since 2005. That fixture was at the Withdean in the season you won the Championship. The last time we hosted you before that was in 1992. There can’t have been many fixtures where the last three league meetings have been at three different home grounds!

Brighton, as many of you will know is a fantastic city with lots of places to eat and drink whilst enjoying a long weekend. Unfortunately, with the stadium being where it is (not in the city centre, another long story), places close to the ground are limited.

Your best best is to drink in Brighton (or alternatively Lewes) and then utilise the free travel that is included your match ticket. The stadium has a dedicated railway station - Falmer - train travel is free on matchdays to and from Brighton (and other nearby stations).

The only place to drink around the ground that welcomes away fans is Sussex University’s student bar (it is very good). It’s not in the city but a 10 minute walk to the ground.

The city itself is full of amazing pubs with something for everything but just allow enough time to get the train to the ground if you do this.

I’ll revert back to this thread with some suggestions of pubs but very happy to answer any questions you may have in the meantime about travel etc.

Anywhere that welcomes away fans will be absolutely fine.

You can't go in The Swan (Falmer) or I believe, the Railway Bell (right next to Brighton station).

The only places at the ground are The Terrace (very busy, expnsive and corporate (like the Stack at Seaburn / Boxpark) or Sussex University SU which is open just for football fans. I like it at the latter but appreciate it's not in the city centre.

Everywhere else, you'll be fine wearing colours. Brighton is a very welcoming city and most people will want to chat.

I suggested some pubs on post #69, but seriously, most pubs a stone's throw from Brighton station are good (Laines, North Laine are excellent).

Yes. He's been in fine form. I still don't think he will make the World Cup Squad (he will take Watkins) but he has been excellent.

You'll get in anywhere in the Lanes with colours and there's some cracking boozers. The Cricketers is my favourite, the Bath Arms and the Black Lion too. The pubs are all within a couple of hundred yards radius so if you don't like one just move a few yards to the next. There's a Spoons just on the other side of North Street if you fancy a few cheaper ones and a bite to eat.

I used to wait in the Duke of Wellington near the station when I was waiting for a train home cos they done a cracking pie meal. Might be best pre-match cos the Lanes are a bit further away from the station.

I've not been since 2019 mind so might have changed a bit.

So many memories brought back reading this. Spent so much time in brighton back in the early 2000s.

Whats the place on the seafront, is it the man o war or something like that, still going? The pump house, the lion and lobster, watched the di canio knee slide derby on the main road to hove, cant remember the name of the place, used to enjoy the cricket ground as well, should visit when durham play sussex can't remember the last time i was there, think it was when sangakarra was at Durham ccc
 
Back in the 80s worked on the East Sussex national golf village and digged in Ukfield . had many a night out in Lewis , Eastbourne and Brighton all great nights . Gutted to be missing this trip still pissed from last Sunday

Some canny pubs in the Old Town of Eastbourne - The Lamb, Tally-Ho and Albert - of course that was years ago and nowt stays the same. Lewis was always handy from Eastbourne on the train.

Sunderland were definitely the better team in the first half, and we were better in the second.

As I said on the podcast, you played us at a brilliant time with no Dunk, Gomez, Baleba and then Welbeck getting injured as well. It was really obvious that the XI was thrown together from what we had left.

We were very poor in the first half and you can see both sides were missing some of their better players.

Having said that, you were very organised and physical throughout which frustrated our pattern of play. We definetly got better with Milner and Mitoma on the pitch, with plenty of decent chance, but it’s obvious we are crying out for another striker and can’t rely on Wele.

If I had to pick a winner, I think it should have been us, but a draw was probably a fair result as Bart did make a great save just after half time.

I’m really pleased Watson got on, I’ve got a nice photo of him clapping the away end, but don’t know how to upload it.

Would love to know all your thoughts about the city and the stadium.

Yeh imo weve played some sides at ideal times this season. Today was another. Feels a slightly missed oportunity but another good point off an established outfit.
