Boycott Qatar

As the title of the thread says really, does the nature of this tournament mean that football has gone too far? It's something I personally have been struggling with and the closer the tournament gets, the more I have been thinking about how I really feel about it?

Before you get into the human rights aspect there's the vast corruption which went into Qatar being awarded the tournament in the first place (along with Russia in 2018) and then the human rights situation. 6'500 deaths, mostly migrant workers who have been paid pittance are dead just so that we can watch a Football tournament for four weeks, it doesn't sit comfortably with me at all. For those of us who were never realistically going to attend the tournament in person, how do you boycott it? Not watch it on the tv? Refuse to purchase anything by the sponsors?

It's a tough choice to make for genuine football supporters who have a social conscience . It's why I have an element of sympathy for some of those who follow our nearest neighbours (not the tits turning up to games wearing tea towels on their heads, fuck those c**nts) Imagine if SAFC were associated with a despot regime like that? No amount of trophies could make me feel at ease with that.

Like I say, those 6'500 who have died in Qatar were someone's dad, brother and son... I don't think I could enjoy a tournament knowing that cloud was hanging over it.
.. Yes. Should never have been agreed to stage it there .. FIFA, UEFA FA etc, crooked as ****. The lot of them ..
Genuine question.
Those who are boycotting Qatar (respect to you all), what‘s your stance on the Beijing Olympics?
.. It sort
0-0 😂😉
i shall be bouycoutting if we don’t qualify, if we do I shall be out there not giving a feck cos I’m not being hypocritical having waited 24 years to see us in a WC finals.
.. They let any fucker in these days mind ..

Wouldn't watch it even if it was being held in the back garden, no interest in international football these days.
Would sell balti pies and bovril though. And take cash payment for them.

Won’t be having anything to do with it.
Same here mate. Tournament that will pass me by. Some things deserve a stance. To answer @Morse Same with that. Horrible and not watching a second.

I may not make any difference, but looking in the mirror with a clear conscience makes a difference to me.

Some will want to watch, and that is ok. It is not about judgement. To me, it is just about what I believe in.
I'll be watching, and anyone who says they won't is lying.
Wrong. I won't be watching one second of it. I like your posts and have no beef. Think you are sound. However, to call me a liar is bang out of order.

Was talking about this the KSA takeover and morals. It’s great to have them but we’ll be messaging each other or posting on a phone made in China. We’ve all got select morals. To he 100% moralistic you’d need to live in a hut and eat only what you catch etc no communication devices.

Fair play to those that genuinely won’t watch it or go when they’ve been to prior world cups following your country.

Think I’ll watch our games and that’s it

Have you never watched a qualifier? Or does that not count on your moral objective?
Not watching, not watched a qualifier or any of the friendlies in the build up, don’t know who any of the UK nations played and no idea of the results. From this thread I know England qualified and Scotland still might. Not heard a mention of Wales.

Will us not watching it make any difference really though?

Viewing numbers may be down on this tournament, but will that make the corrupt official at FIFA refuse a brown envelope in the future? And will the reduced viewing numbers make countries less likely to hand over brown envelopes?

I suspect the answer to both questions is ‘no’.

I want to protest against it, but I feel voiceless, and like not watching only hurts me.

It would require countries teams to boycott it to really affect Qatar in any way.
I can't see that happening sadly. Or if they do, it probably won't be any of the big hitters that the money men will give a shit about.

If Germany, Brazil, England, France, Argentina and maybe a handful of others pulled out, that might make a difference, but not doubt Fifa would throw their toys out of the pram and ban them from further competitions or fine them or whatever.

Letting Qatar or Saudi Arabia host any kind of sporting event, even as far down as the WWE, is basically saying you're not arsed about what else is happening there. It's legitimising them.
Sportwashing. Pure and simple.
