Boycott Qatar

I think it's a disgrace that they've got the tournament, and even having been awarded it they should have been stripped of it due to the deaths of workers. That being said, sadly, I don't have the morals that would make me ignore the tournament completely. I won't be buying any merchandise, and I won't be travelling to the tournament so they'll get no money out of me, but I'll watch the games on tele. I have a lot of respect for those who like international football but won't watch mind

Will us not watching it make any difference really though?

Viewing numbers may be down on this tournament, but will that make the corrupt official at FIFA refuse a brown envelope in the future? And will the reduced viewing numbers make countries less likely to hand over brown envelopes?

I suspect the answer to both questions is ‘no’.

I want to protest against it, but I feel voiceless, and like not watching only hurts me.

possibly some massive incentives/bonus' being offered to tempt the different associations...trouble is, we all know greed will win the day over morals.

apart from the human rights issues this is one of the few places in the world that should never be considered for a world wide competition, having to change the schedules for a lot of leagues is ridiculous, again, greed got this venue chosen.

any footballer (or indeed, any person) who has been taking the knee or voicing support for any anti-racism/equality type cause that goes is just proving how many hypocrites there are within sport and basically knocks any good work they have done on the head.

The answer is “probably not”.

The answer to will watching it help is “no”.

It’s worth the effort.

That's pretty much where I'm at with it like. Feel a bit bad because until your post I was the only one on the thread saying I'd watch it! Like I say, won't be giving them money, but the idea of not watching England on BBC or whatever because of it seems to punish me and doesn't actually impact anything. In fact, viewing figures aren't taken by seeing how many people view. Iirc a certain number of households have devices that capture the information and they extrapolate it. So unless I'm one of them, me not watching it won't even impact the viewing figures!

Depends what else is on the telly I suppose. I don't bother with England qualifiers as I find international breaks a massive pain in the arse, and this feels like it's going to be a bit of a non-canon World Cup (a bit like the weird BCD lockdown era matches). If I do watch any it will be out of boredom/curiosity rather than any emotional investment in it.

Same. Won’t be on my tele, nor will I check the scores on BBC or Sky - however they should really not be covering it themselves and are hypocrites if they do.
We all know what bastions of morality sky and the BBC are.
A sniff of an England World Cup win and the self imposed boycotts will soon be forgotten.
You don’t know that.

Genuine question.
Those who are boycotting Qatar (respect to you all), what‘s your stance on the Beijing Olympics?
You could say the same about Sochi as well.
I doubt I’ll be boycotting it (I’m fickle and think we’ll win) but I think football associations around the world should have taken a much stronger stance on this when it was even mooted so that it didn’t happen.
