Boro thread

He's clearly on a wind-up. It's actually a bit embarrassing how many bites he gets.

It is true though that Boro fans are feeling cautiously optimistic about our promotion chances this season. If we can get Hamilton and Conway through the door we are going to have some very strong attacking options, and there is still talk of Ryan Giles possibly returning. He was great for us.
@Boro_Fan is a divvy. Shows Boro fans up.

Well, wev didn't actually say Boro are 'bigger', just basically that we've both been pretty much crap for years.

Mind - We won the league cup in 2004, reached 3 cup finals in the late 90's, played in Europe twice in the mid 00's, reaching the UEFA cup final in 2006.

What were Sunderland doing in that time span?

Perceiving yourselves to be 'bigger' does not make you better.

Erm you've proved my point 🤣

In that time span we had two of our best premier league finishes. We have always had a small amount of success consistently. Boro were in the dark ages before Gibson bought you and will be in the dark ages once more when he sells you on. Your just Wigan under Dave Whelan 🤣

Erm, righto.
If that's your idea of 'dark ages', then I'd suggest Sunderland have been in the dark ages since the late 1950's.
Do you count your 5 seasons in the 3rd tier in with your 'consistent small success' too?

Thing is, I have no interest whatsoever in who is or isn't seen as a 'big' club.
Some clubs play in larger towns/cities than others, some have more supporters than others - but to me, clubs are representative of their local communities and are the most important thing (football wise) to their local supporters.

Sorry, but no. Look at the finishing position of each club in the 64 years since 1960 - Boro finished above Sunderland 35 times. Sunderland above Boro 29 times.

Both clubs have been extremely comparible for 60 years. In fact Boro have edged it, but whatever. We are two bald blokes arguing over a comb.

Boro don’t have a 64 year history mate 🤔

Why 60 years? Because it favours Boro?

Boro did nothing of note until the 90s so sorry no it's not the same. We achieved more than Boro prior to the 60s and achieved more the thirty years after the 60s.

Once the Gibson family leave MFC you will plummet

We've had 61 seasons in the top flight, and only 14 whilst Gibson has been Chairman.

We've also only spent 2 seasons in the third tier, 3 less than a certain other club.

I love Gibbo but this idea that we were scratching around in the lower leagues until he became Chairman is nonsense.

Why 60 years? Because I made the original point that the 2 clubs fortune had been the same for 60 years. The point being that for a significant stretch of time Sunderland have been no better than Boro. I could have used 70 years I suppose. Whatever, you disagreed and said Sunderland had been better over 60 years. I then proved you wrong. Thanks.

You have only existed as a club for 38 years yer tool 😂😂😂

Incorrect, Steve Gibson and consortium rescued the club and bought it out.

The club did not start again and was allowed to carry on by the football league and yes the 1986 was on the badge and was symbolic as a rebirth of the club after NEARLY going bust.
