Boro thread

We won the cup in 73. Reached milk cup final in the 80s and the fa cup final again in 92. What were Boro doing in that time span?

Being more successful in small pockets doesn't make you bigger. 🤣
Well, wev didn't actually say Boro are 'bigger', just basically that we've both been pretty much crap for years.

Mind - We won the league cup in 2004, reached 3 cup finals in the late 90's, played in Europe twice in the mid 00's, reaching the UEFA cup final in 2006.

What were Sunderland doing in that time span?

Perceiving yourselves to be 'bigger' does not make you better.

In what the 70s? Under Jack Charlton? In the 80s? fairly similar to Sunderland as per. In the 90s reaching a cup final as well 2 league cup finals. Then if you want to talk about 00s we can, don't want to though it seems? 🤣

As I say, an inconvenient truth.

Well I give a shit, because it's quite relevant to the point I was making.

Lots of people may have seen Sunderland win the FA cup, but Sunderland fans my age won't have seen them win a trophy.

I'm not bothered that we're not perceived to be a big club, I got to experience my club winning a trophy.
I wonder if Swindon , Oxford , Luton etc still go on about winning the Milk cup/ Littlewoods cup or whatever it was called.

I know Leicester don’t anymore. As they have now won the major trophies.

Anyway , I remember in the early 90’s Boro fans telling Sunderland fans they were living in the past referring to 1973.

Not sure when you won the Milk Cup , as it’s not in the national psyche like “Sunderland 73” or “England 66” but surely it must have reached living in the past stage by now. Whenever it was.

Not a single fact in anything he posts marra
Yes, and his posts tell us that Portsmouth are a "huge club". Well yes, they get half decent crowds and won the League a couple of times after the war when the country was trying to get on its feet - but huge club, no
Edit How the hell has my post appeared twice. Am I losing the plot !

Hardly, we are just getting started.

If you want to celebrate 2021 Pizza Express then go for it, 3 year anniversary and all that 🙌🏻

What were you doing when we won the league six times and the FA cup twice ?

Just asking like?

And - if you selected the best eleven from both sides, I doubt if they would amount to a promotion side.

There is not a single fact in your sentence apart from the actual word.

Leeds are the 7th biggest club in the country after Manc scum, City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs.

Oh yes , winning a Wembley Cup Final. You should maybe try it some time.

I'll skip getting relegating to league 1 to win the dominos cup at Wembley thanks 👍🏻😉

What back when Huddersfield and Preston won the league? Highly doubt he was alive. Also it doesn't count pre 1992. Or in fact pre-1939. 😉

It's not about bragging, it's about making the point that I'm not bothered about whether Boro are perceived to be a big club. I've seen my club win a trophy, and wouldn't have experienced this if I was a Sunderland supporter.

Many Sunderland fans have seen Sunderland win a trophy, and that's great for them, but there also many who haven't.

what are your thoughts on the OP's opening statement by the way ?

He's clearly on a wind-up. It's actually a bit embarrassing how many bites he gets.

It is true though that Boro fans are feeling cautiously optimistic about our promotion chances this season. If we can get Hamilton and Conway through the door we are going to have some very strong attacking options, and there is still talk of Ryan Giles possibly returning. He was great for us.
