Aaah, the perils of the loan system.
Clubs shouldn't be allowed more than 2 in any one season in the Champo imho.
 

I’ve no love or huge dislike for the Boro but Like us it’s early days and like us it largely depends on how any new signings settle and perform.

Although they got done over today I see their akpom replacement got off the mark which is a positive sign.

Lost a lot of handy loan players from last season and like all teams a fair bit will depend on that market and how those players then perform.

Last season didn’t make carrick a brilliant manager and the start this season doesn’t make him a bad one be interesting to see how he goes this season.

Aye, those last 3 games against coventry last season dont count, or the 2 games before that, or the 4 games in the league this season.

4+3+2 = 9 championship games without a win
 
If you look at their last big win in the Championship , Norwich at home in April , they have lost ( in order of effectiveness)

Akpom
Archer
Ramsey
Giles
Steffan
That is going to have a hell of an effect on a team.
Equivalent of us losing Diallo, Roberts, Clarke Cirkin and Patto.
The poster who made the point about loans is 100% correct. I would also hazard that the fact 4 of those being on loan led to their bad tail off at the end , as players prepared to go back to their parent clubs.
The player they have I really like is Hackney , I also think Lenighan and McGree are top 6 players.
Again , the policy of rip it up and start again this year means they are going to be playing catch up.
How many goals do those lost players take out of their team , 50 + ? That’s a lot to replace.

I do believe we knocked Huddersfield out of the cup THIS season.
Most of the matches you've used occurred LAST season.
Suddenly shoving 'championship' games into the equation is moving the goalposts a bit isn't it? (Pun intended).

Seeing as the win over Huddersfield was an actual competitive match , then why wouldn't I.
The fact remains , we have gone THREE matches without a win, same as you did .

This 'nine' thing is just distorting the facts.

We're 4 games into the championship season - hardly reason to panic - Sunderland are hardly setting the league on fire

I mean I assumed he meant league form on the first place. As the Carabao cup really matters very little. There's no prize money and neither Sunderland or Boro were likely at all to reach the semis when prize money comes into it.

But yes, you're correct you beat Huddersfield having an extra man for nearly 90 mins. But having said that, league form is a concern isn't it ? 9 without a win now.

4 without a win this season isn't too concerning.. some Sunderland fans think we're in trouble after 4 matches. But Middlesbrough ended the season in pretty bad form, and have seemingly started or in pretty bad form.

Of course it's concerning, but it IS only 4 games.
It was never gonna be easy replacing those loanees and Akpom's goals.

Yes, we did really well getting in the play offs (after last season's start), but that doesn't necessarily mean we're an established top 6 (championship) club.

The new striker got off the mark yesterday, so hopefully he'll settle quickly, and players can adapt to any difference in style.

On the 'extra man' thing - we did actually play most of yesterday's second half with 10 men.

For me, having the window extending four weeks into the season is distorting. Teams simply can't be settled. I hope it is changed to end at the start of the season but I highly doubt it will.

Yeah, totally agree.
Surely the close season is plenty time to sort squads out, and to me the window should close just before the start of new season.

At least then clubs know what they've got as the season starts, and also know they aren't gonna lose anyone in the first weeks of the season

What’s our numbers like after 4 games this season. For me our worst performance was the match we won, we’ve generally been pretty decent with an obvious deficiency in that we haven’t got a forward.

Or is 4 games to short of time span to make the numbers work?

Spot on mate hackney is a class act local lad. But it’s effectively ruled out us going for promotion. The core of the side has been ripped apart and we will not find another archer and a player who will have a season like Akpom. We will probably be around 16th/17th
 
To be honest I thought their bench with the likes of Jones, McNair, Forss etc on looked good. I couldn’t understand why some of them weren’t starting
