Blyth Gigaplant

A tidy sum...
Council could use £15m 'to buy back gigafactory land' (BBC)

"A council will set aside £15m of public money in case it needs to buy back land where a battery factory was due to be built, it is understood.

Plans for the gigafactory in Cambois, near Blyth, Northumberland, fell through after the collapse of Britishvolt, which originally bought the land for £4.8m.

Councillors in Northumberland voted to approve the money – which will be held in reserve - under a so-called “strategic acquisition fund”.

Conservative leader Glen Sanderson did not comment on the claims, but said the council needed the funds in its "back pocket" if an opportunity arose."

why will it cost 3x the amount to buy it back? how long ago did britishvolt buy it?

Did they remediate the site? I thought there was an enabling works package.

The other issue why they may pay more is to accelerate the acquisition. The original deal may have had a long stop date for development or just been sold outright, so assume the administrator of the company will want to recover as much of the costs as possible.

I remember looking these up when it was announced.
The company was only incorporated about 4 or 5 years ago there’s been a total of 17 officers with 15 resignations something just doesn’t sit right.

Very good question. The only people who appear to be losing money here are the council taxpayers.
That's a lot of money that will have been made , if repurchased ?
Hopefully, nobody will make an illegal gain out of this ?
Blyth Spartans FC are in serious financial trouble, let's hope some of the possible £10 million "profit", finds it's way to the continuation of tte Club...
