A lad once jumped off London Bridge in front of me. He just vaulted the parapet as casual as fuck like. I was inches away from grabbing him. He finally went under the water near HMS Belfast, just as a police launch nearly got to him. He was a goner. They fished him out further down the river.

never understand why (assuming you want to kill yourself) you lob yourself off a bridge into the water.

on a different note my mate jumped of london bridge for a bet. steak dinner.

Whe he jumped in the tide was low and just on the turn so the river was flowing slowly,and he just bobbed along for ages. By the time the coppers reached him he had reached the belfast which is a canny distance away then disappeared. He seemed as calm as fuck

A cousin was doing a beer run years back.

Doing 70 odd on a motorway when some wifey sprints onto the front of the transit.

Not a pleasant experience for the lad.

Would depend how you landed I reckon

Bellyflop = no chance.

Similarly, a consulating engineer had been to our industry dinner years back and as they headed over the swing bridge to the baha he said hed swim over n see them there. Fished out at St Peters Basin 2 days later. :eek:

Guess it depends on your entry.

Tom Daley would have a better chance than say me or you.

Well i doubt anyone committing suicide would go out doing a reverse pike into the river Wear, it would be a canny swan song mind.

I was more just thinking would you cripple yourself if you went legs first.

Bellyflop = no chance.
:

That used to knack when you fucked up a dive in the leisure centre pool never mind 80 or so foot :lol:

My mate found his brother dead after he hung himself. I don't think he will ever be fully over it.

Mine too. Held onto the reason he did it and never told a soul until his mother sadly passed away last year.

Explained a lot about him as a person, as it happened. So so sad though.

same lad swam from wapping straight across the river. he also jumped from tower bridge and climbed out. lucky boy.

The fake ripper survived jumping before he sent the tapes didn't he?

There was a really good feature film called "The Bridge" about people jumping off the golden gate bridge to do themselves in. Think a few have survived (one was interviewed in the film) but most die, something like 35 a year too!

Stepfather found the body of a bridge jumper off Hylton Bridge a couple of years back - another one who'd missed the water and hit the riverbank track.
