I was once stood going into that Beach Bar nightclub in newcastle, might of been called baja or summit when someone emerged on the high level bridge ganna jump off. Its canny close to where we were queueing.

Bunch of fuckers in the q set a chant away of jump jump jump, original I know. Anyhow I started calling them wankers, a few squared up to me, a few called me a prick, some others a boring bastard. Couldnt believe the cruelness of the fuckers, didnt back down like and never got a clip either.

He never jumped in the end

I know there was a lad who done it a while back and there wasnt anything in the paper. Its sometimes makes The Echo but it makes you wonder how often this happens

A friend of ours drove over the cliff near Souter point about 25 years ago , still talk about it to this day.

Tragic.

Was once told by someone who worked on the tube that they asked the press to not report some incidents of suicide on the lines as it often lead to a 'copy cat'.

drunken down and outs threaten to do it quite a lot but they really have no intention of doing it, attention seeking etc,,

ive got every sympathy with people that go through with it,
they dont phone anyone or threaten to do it, theyve decided they are going over before they get there, tragic really that some think this is the only way out

Iirc there a post on here a year or so ago in which the OP was on his way back from the match and someone suddenly jumped off the bridge.

Terrible thing to witness.

Lad I work with has an apartment in the Echo 24 and said it's about one a month who actually take the jump, three or four threaten it per month.

Rekons when they hit the water you can see them floating/describe their clothes etc...when they hit the pathment it's just a mess.

f***ing awful and truly tragic, whether you have sympathy for the jumper or not they no doubt leave behind a massive loss and untold confusion/bitterness/guilt.

Seem to be hearing of more and more people doing this these days.

Some older woman, 50s I believe, went of the Wear bridge a few months back iirc.

whilst no doubt true on some occasions i saw one bloke who hit the pavement and he barely had a mark on him,

This person hit the ground, not the water.

Saw the body as going over bridge on train. Horrific.

Pretty sure quite a few have jumped expecting to go into the river but the cross wind takes them to the side.

Good for you mate , some total idiots out there .

Aye went for a run down there and park next the metro at sheepfolds. As we were coming over the bridge just before 7 there was a couple of shocked looking coppers running all over and then the ambulance and a copper car took off towards the riverside.

Person must have been in a bad way to hoy themselves over the top.....very sad!

and yet a lot of people on here say its an easy job!

Re: Bloke jumps from Wearmouth Bridge and hits pavement

I once seen a young lass (18-22) jump from the Tyne Bridge about 8pm on a sunny Saturday night just as Newcastle was starting to liven up with revellers. Still remember seeing her face as she fell, still don't know to this day whether she slipped or meant to jump. Awful seeing her eventually plucked from the Tyne. Such a tragic waste, it had a massive impact on me for a few weeks.

Re: Bloke jumps from Wearmouth Bridge and hits pavement

When my Dad was 22 ish, him and his mates were all pissed and walking across the Wear Bridge when one of them decided it would be a good idea to walk along the railing, he fell of course, and hit the pavement :( I would imagine it would be horrible to witness. My mate got hit by a car in front of me at the lights next to St Mary's carpark on the way back from the Sunderland - Wimbledon game a few year ago, and that was bad enough to see, would hate to see a suicide.
