Define higher opposition? You may need a shovel here, marra. Whilst the majority of us have been very much humbled by our recent history, I'm sure a lot of people will see this as two of the divisions biggest clubs playing each other and one of the few occasions you'll see your away end full this season.

Quite simple really, Premiership opposition.

What he means is that our fans thrive on being the underdog.
Club wise based on reputation Sunderland are a giant but team wise you're just come out of league 1 so it's no big deal to beat you.

Our support vocally was often quite poor in league 1 but it was really impressive in the PL, with most matches being played in an atmosphere like it was a big local derby.

Apart from a few groups of teenagers from both sides goading each other I seen absolutely no problems outside of the ground, so suspect there's an element of bullshit in the OP. We parked just off London Road, got some food and went to The Golden Lion. Every Blades fan we spoke to was spot on and were expecting a tough game. I have to be honest I was expecting the home support to be a lot more noisy than they were, a lot more noisy. The red was justified and my first thought was it's killed the game, especially after United scored. Again, I thought the early second half goal meant we were going to get thumped as that's how it often pans out with us. However, our grit meant that it was still a great game and was very encouraging. You could feel the nerves from the home fans through the silence. As for us itgoing to be an up and down season. We'll be absolutely fine, but would love a midfielder like Berge who turned out for them last night. I have a lot of time both Sheffield clubs. They tend to have been put to one side because Leeds were once good back in the 70s. The history of both clubs contributes massively to the history of the game in England. United will be up and around the top of the table and I'd be expecting promotion if I supported them with the squad we have. Hopefully we've sent a message out to the rest of the division with our first few games that we aren't an easy 3 points.
No bullshit mate but If that's what you wanna think go for it I've no reason to make shit up my pal lives on London Road where it happened

So if last night had been a Premiership game, which isn't beyond the realms, your fans would have been louder?

There wasn't many of our lot knocking around London before the game last night. Mind outside the Golden Lion there was some Blades fans similar to what you have described shouting scum at one of our coaches. When I turned and asked 'are they'? He quickly replied "I much prefer Sunderland to Newcastle".

London road I saw it outta mi pals winda and could hear everything look ove got no reason to make stuff up our lots done similar before too as I say it's not big or clever and admitting it is the first sign of realisation it was a few nobs shouting at families for all of 20 seconds if that then they made there way to the ground I presume

Unacceptable, but probably a few mouthy kids who had supped too much dark fruits. It certainly isn’t reflective of what was a very good natured atmosphere before the game between both sets of fans. It's a pity a few more pubs around the ground aren't away fan friendly mind. Although I suspect that's to help control numbers as most of them looked quite small.

Spoke to a few blades afterwards and it was all good natured mate

Some points from last night's match.

1: Last season 90% of clubs came to Bramall Lane defending in numbers trying to frustrate us.
So what a refreshing chance it was to see an away team show no respect and take the game to us.
Sunderand's tactics ensured it was an open entertaining match. You were the better team for the first 20 minutes

2: I've read Sunderland fans saying how the Championship is a tough league but others have said the standard is poor and there's nothing to fear.
BOTH comments are kind of correct. There are a lot of decent/ good teams in the Championship but no really good teams.
Most of the teams are at a similar level. I think the standard near the top is quite poor (well below PL level)
Whereas the standard near the bottom of the league is very good ( much higher than leaguer 1 standard).

So if Sheff United or Sunderland play well then virtually every game is winnable.
However if you lose focus and think a match is going to be easy then you tend to lose.
Success in the Championship is all about consistency.

Based on what I saw I think Sunderland will finish top half, probably 8th or 9th.
You reminded me of us during our first season back, playing with no fear.
This season is all about you players and fans adjusting to the league but I reckon next season you'll be promotion contenders.

Good luck for the rest of the season.
Point 2 is interesting as I had the opposite perception. The standard in League One is mostly awful but the top League One teams were awful tough. From what I've seen so far there is a clear step up but not a massive gap between the bottom of the Championship and the top of League One, and that was the impression I got when we first got relegation. But I saw bits of yourselves, Fulham, Bournemouth and Forest last season and thought they would all absolutely batter us.

Without calling names ,what a strange way to view football,a game of a it and the team you "support "
if 3 points is the key to your general well being i suggest packing in
Your logic follows non . A draw when we should have won 5 nil isn't the same as a draw against a stronger better playing side . You can look at 3 games without a win and think we're doomed and you can also look and say how unlucky were we ,we should be okay this year
I certainly didnt see the game you saw last night

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

It was an interesting game for those first 30 mins. I thought we looked slightly better going forward and they did in defence. We done well in that time as they finished in the playoffs last season but who knows what would have happened without the sending off.

The game was effectively over after 30 minutes so it doesn't really tell us much about our team in the grand scheme of things in this league. Another tough game at stoke so hopefully we can keep 11 men on the field then we can start getting idea of how we will do.

Good luck for the rest of the season, just not tonight 😂 quite a few of your wanker element are about tonight but we all have em don't we,I actually like reading your board have done for a few seasons and I've gathered Hetton isn't a lass and doesn't work for the club 😉
Hetton is actually a place which stretches from the North end of Easington Lane to Houghton le spring and include the Lyons, Eppleton, Moorsley etc. etc. and that does not include South Hetton which is in Co.Durham and a couple of mile away.

I know I've lived in the North East plus still not far away

All the forums and bookies would have been mad to take bets on us winning. No way would that have happened. No team coming up from League One is ever favourites for a game. Beating newly promoted sides is to be expected. Which is why the guard is let down a bit allowing the newly promoted teams to fight harder and surprise the big established clubs.

I went on London Road after the game ,I know Sheffield has been a city of sanctuary for several yrs but you would have thought you were on London Rd Islamabad, karachi or kabul not London Rd Sheffield.
