Always remember when he took the corner that led to Porterfields goal.
He’d taken a knock and as he went to take the corner the commentator said “Billy Hughes moving much more freely now to the relief of Wearsiders” or words to that effect anyway

I saw Billy play for the Lads loads of times one of which was of course the 1973 Cup Final. What a joy it was to watch him he was such a skilled team player. One of the everlasting memories that I have of him is during the final minutes of the Cup Final having an attempt at a final burst down the wing at Wembley. All the lads were absolutely knackered by then of course but Billy was determined as ever and he almost took Leeds by surprise.
Billy was without doubt one of SAFC's great legends up there with all his team mates. Sincere condolences to his family and many friends he will be missed by Lads fans all over the world - and thanks for all the football Billy.
