Biggest away following for league game

We went to man city game. 24 seater, all in fancy dress, I was 1 of 4 ninja turtles. Everyone apart from 1 were in costumes.

Leeds highest ever crowd was 57,892 on 15th March v Sunderland (which still stands). It was an FA Cup 5th round replay. I was standing on mud above the concrete terracing in the open end. A wall at the Scratching Shed end collapsed and the Leeds chairman came on the Tannoy to appeal for calm. The match finished in a draw with Sunderland losing the second replay at the 'neutral' venue of Hull! I don't know how many Sunderland fans were there but there were a hell of a lot. Elland Road was a real dump with the terrace I stood on being similar to the one at Springfield Park Wigan (famous for mud gymnastics from our fans) only much bigger!

I was at all three games, we were robbed at Hull as everyone knows...

sometimes a match just catches the imagination of fans. was by no means the biggest but we played man city in what was either the full members cup/freight rover trophy midweek and there was loads made the journey. it felt like every man and his dog was there.
we lost on penalty's, iirc nick pickering missed his to end the dream :)

I never even got in. Stood on a grassy knoll listening to the crowd, really pissed off. It was nuts. Gates locked very early that day.
Me also
Hitched up from London and got there just as the game was kicking off
Stood on the grassy knoll, listening to the game on the radio I think ?

I also remember there being a dangerous overcrowding situation at Elland Road, when around 9-10,000 of us turned up there, in the mid to late,1980's

Aye I remember that we got beat 2-0 we missed a pen them missed a pen.Remember loads of our fans jumping over the fence into the Lowfields paddock into the section what was getting used for segregation .The end was rammed you couldn’t move think the attendance was about 31000 or there about .

That Villa stat is incredible.
"The Fulwell" ( ex poster on here, uber fan ) says 20,000 there, so surely biggest ever away following for none cup SF or final game ?
You could look at it another way - 37,000 before promotion, 50,000 there for the promotion party.

There was a lot of Sunderland there that day but 20,000 is optimistic.

The other nonsense is that there were Sunderland fans all up the hill on Aston Park watching the game - There were 1 or 2 but mainly it was Villa fans among the 1000s that were locked out.

I think they are on about the bank behind the whitton end I was in the seats in the main stand with a lot of Sunderland and i had a birds eye view of the bank behind the stand and it had thousands on it who could not see the game

The City game was great. City fans were spot on but were determined to finish above Utd, Quinn was almost apologetic slotting the ball home. The madness of our goals and the news that Mick Harford had scored. Finished the night in an Indian restaurant which had its own nightclub out the back.

Wimbledon was shite. We went for the weekend and stayed with some Dons fans the lads had met on holiday. Right boring bastards and then a shit performance.

I didn't realise but Harford later claimed his OG was deliberate.

Own goals are usually accidental, but Mick Harford later admitted that his headed own goal in a vital match between Luton Town and Derby County on the final day of the 1990/91 season was deliberate. To stay up, Luton needed to beat Derby, who were already down. Harford, a Luton legend who had played for the Hatters for five seasons, had joined Derby halfway through the previous season, but did not forget his old Luton loyalties. Four minutes before half-time, he met a free kick with a glancing near-post header past Peter Shilton and Town were on their way to a 2-0 win and safety. Down instead went Sunderland, whom Harford was to join in March 1993.

Fair enough. A lot didn’t see the game that day. The gates shut at around 2 but back in those days, people knew they had to get there earlier except those with seats. I was only 15 but I know a couple who opted for another pint as the pub emptied and ended up locked out.
