Central Defender
We went to man city game. 24 seater, all in fancy dress, I was 1 of 4 ninja turtles. Everyone apart from 1 were in costumes.

I was at all three games, we were robbed at Hull as everyone knows...Leeds highest ever crowd was 57,892 on 15th March v Sunderland (which still stands). It was an FA Cup 5th round replay. I was standing on mud above the concrete terracing in the open end. A wall at the Scratching Shed end collapsed and the Leeds chairman came on the Tannoy to appeal for calm. The match finished in a draw with Sunderland losing the second replay at the 'neutral' venue of Hull! I don't know how many Sunderland fans were there but there were a hell of a lot. Elland Road was a real dump with the terrace I stood on being similar to the one at Springfield Park Wigan (famous for mud gymnastics from our fans) only much bigger!
Me alsoI never even got in. Stood on a grassy knoll listening to the crowd, really pissed off. It was nuts. Gates locked very early that day.
88/89 or 89/90 season? Yeah was there. Was dangerously packed.I was at most of those games.
Stoke in the cup in 1976, was estimated at 10,000 Sunderland fans in attendance, and the same for Norwich in 1977.
I also remember there being a dangerous overcrowding situation at Elland Road, when around 9-10,000 of us turned up there, in the mid to late,1980's

You could look at it another way - 37,000 before promotion, 50,000 there for the promotion party. That Villa stat is incredible.
"The Fulwell" ( ex poster on here, uber fan ) says 20,000 there, so surely biggest ever away following for none cup SF or final game ?
I think they are on about the bank behind the whitton end I was in the seats in the main stand with a lot of Sunderland and i had a birds eye view of the bank behind the stand and it had thousands on it who could not see the gameYou could look at it another way - 37,000 before promotion, 50,000 there for the promotion party.
There was a lot of Sunderland there that day but 20,000 is optimistic.
The other nonsense is that there were Sunderland fans all up the hill on Aston Park watching the game - There were 1 or 2 but mainly it was Villa fans among the 1000s that were locked out.
It was. And a good 2k elsewhere as those fans all stayed so you could see. Had not heard of the Villa game in the 70s like.Sure Man City was around 15k
I’m fairly sure their previous home game was Utd and the gate for our visit was about 5k biggerIt was. And a good 2k elsewhere as those fans all stayed so you could see. Had not heard of the Villa game in the 70s like.
Fair enough. A lot didn’t see the game that day. The gates shut at around 2 but back in those days, people knew they had to get there earlier except those with seats. I was only 15 but I know a couple who opted for another pint as the pub emptied and ended up locked out.I think they are on about the bank behind the whitton end I was in the seats in the main stand with a lot of Sunderland and i had a birds eye view of the bank behind the stand and it had thousands on it who could not see the game
Definitely Aston Villa in 70s.
Best part of 20k there
Correct.Last game of the season? They went up and we finished 3rd?
I think you lost out after that game. It was Norwich who beat you but I think you needed to win on the day. Man United 1st, Villa 2nd, Norwich 3rd, you 4th.Correct.
Palace had to beat Burnley a few days later to pip us and sadly they did.
Oooops - yes you're correct.I think you lost out after that game. It was Norwich who beat you but I think you needed to win on the day. Man United 1st, Villa 2nd, Norwich 3rd, you 4th.
