Bid rejected for Clarke

Saw a few ask, "why do we have to sell players? Just keep our best players and we get promoted". This regime won't be selling willy knilly, they've got the financial clout to turn down big bids and even offer bigger contracts to keep a player here.

However, say we do keep our best players this season and add to what we got, but lose in the play offs again next year. Well, it's obvious ya gonna have a few players wanting out.

In that scenario, we can't keep them if they have outgrown us, it makes no sense unless we got them to knuckle down whilst winding down their contract.

And the best reason to sell a player is if a better player becomes available.

Brighton sold Cuccurella for a fortune, close to 50 million weren't it? His replacement is supposedly better and cost about half.

That is how you do it.

Agree - but it doesn't alter the fact it took Roberts and Amad to do the same job as Clark.

It could also be seen that the opposition could have been concentrating on the threat of Amad and Roberts which left spaces for Clarke (and Cirkin at times) and vice versa.

One thing the season showed is how dangerous both our flanks were and how sides couldn't cope trying to nullifying both.

Amad, Roberts and Clarke were all huge for us.

In an ideal world aye for sure, but a better player than Clarke for half the price in the championship? Not likely to be honest.

We will sell if we get a much bigger offer IMO.

As long as we sell for a fortune

What I'm saying is that if we doubled up on the left side neither Amad or Roberts on their own could have done the job Clarke did.

And if only one of Roberts or Amad played neither flank was as effective.

For us to be the force we were this season, it was imperative that all 3 were playing.

He didn't play a single game in the PL for Spurs. They signed him as an 18 year old into a squad packed with attacking players covering the same position. Its not particularly his fault that they didn't give him a chance ahead of others that were doing the business for them. To call him a failure at the level is daft
Of course Hot Since. He he has also benefitted from his training this season and has demonstrated the results of that on the pitch.

I believe that he should be retained but if he was to be sold then would need to be a minimum of £27,000 with a sell on payback to Spurs of a maximum 5% if there is no % agreed. TOT showed no interest and I believe never played him.

Eh? The sell on will already be contractually agreed.

'5% if there's no % agreed' what?

Havent seen much of that financial clout yet ie when our main man is running out of contract or we have no strikers.

Jury still very much out!

So was Patto huge for us….

Brighton have made a profit in the market about 3 times in 10 year.

They've spent an absolute fortune, hence owing the owner £400m.

I've got a horrible feeling this will drag on all summer and the lad will have his head turned by agents. Hope I'm wrong but when noises like this start "making" there way into the media it's normally from one side or the other and I don't think it'll be from our side with this one.

I think people get a bit romantic about Brighton, like you said they've spent above their means and owe the owner a fuckton of money. It's just a bit of a fairy tale ATM that little old Brighton have broken the top six on a shoestring. It maybe compared to the normal top six but they've spent money and spent it well the past four or so windows that means they'll make good profit on four or five players. But not really a shoestring.
