Bid rejected for Clarke

I ignore you as a rule and your latest reply reminds me why I do. I’m saying offer him enough money to keep him here. Go up with us.
He has already experienced great times with us ffs.
Anyway you are back on ignore you Doyle.
if he would stick with dafc rather than joine stablished premier league teams because of money..then he isnt very ambitious..and safc is an ambitious club so have no place for the likes of that

Can anyone tell me the point of selling our best players, even for a good price? Promotion is worth hundreds of millions so selling good players does not make any sense. If a player wants to leave then I'd consider selling to avoid disruption to team morale.

Because if the player gets offered double the wages, probably even more than that, and SAFC can also make say 10-15 million profit on the deal, it suits everyone.

As fans we’d like to keep him, the player himself would probably love to stay here if we could match the wage, and the club would love to keep him. But ultimately this is why money and ffp have ruined and continue to ruin the game, it’s financially solid for us to sell and him to earn a lot more, even if those clubs in question are historically nowhere near us.

It’s how football is and will work for the foreseeable unfortunately.

The plus side is, with say 15 million profit you can bring in three quality players, maybe even more with our current record of finding gems.

Should be telling clubs he isnt for sale and build the team around players like him

Sadly this "project" is essentially making us a feeder club for Premier League teams
That's happened exactly zero times so far. This project is giving us better, more focused players than we have seen for many a year. If one or two need to get sold to take us to the next stage then So be it, but I hope and expect the fee we receive to be decent.

Clarke needs to be careful as well. If he picks the wrong club for his next move, he could end up wrecking his progress.

And if we sell a Clarke or a Stewart etc clubs will know we need to replace them and will have money from their sells and could put prices of players we want

You’re not the sharpest tool in the box are you?

He’s had a premier league move and been frozen out, he’s now playing regularly and getting the best out of himself, if he’s not guaranteed starts at one of the clubs interested how does that benefit him exactly? Other than financially, which as I covered above with Spurs, didn’t work out well for him.

he wasnt froxzen out at spurs..he wasnt good enough..he got minutes and failed..
of course he wouldnt be garaunteed to start at anohter premier league club if he moved..but thats my point..if he has so little talent that he wouldnt be garaunteed starter at palace..whose only player in his position is out of contract,..or brentford..then he isnt worth the moeny some on here think..

Correct,he tried London and hated it,he is a York lad.Him and Pat Roberts have said they have found their home.

Aye, you’re an absolute tool.

He was our best player last season barring Amad, he’s clearly worth more than 9m.

It would seem that salmon pants has got the hump because his old mate has been moved on.

As much as I think he's enjoying it here, money does strange things to people, and Premiership clubs can offer a lot more than we can.

Don't get me wrong, if he's to walk into Speakmans office tomorrow and tells him he doesn't want to leave, then that's great for us all, but if a big offer appears, and he gets a big contract offer himself, then its probable that he'll go. If we get 20 or so million for him, he's likely to be playing regularly in the Premiership, which is a bit different to his last stint at a Premier League club.

Just got to hope these clubs interested won't pay the kind of monet we're after, but 20/30m ain't a lot for a top league side these days.

Sunderland will only sell there best players if stupid Bids come in can't see the likes of Burnley Brentford or palace offering us over £20 million for Clarke.

sigh..sports science has a strong view on the age at which professional footballers peak..and roberts is rolling into tat age bracket now..
and by playing for SAFC..roberts is operating at a lower level than he had for much of his career..ie on a downward spiral..

well thats broadly true of copurse.
If you’re going to try to find an angle to slag off every Sunderland player possible please at least check on player histories. Roberts is not on a downward spiral at all - he started in the Championship, got picked up by Man City where he played <half a dozen games in total but was loaned out to championship, Scottish premiership and Troyes. So the L1 season with Sunderland was his first real full season in a settled permanent club, and this season he has been better. So not a downward spiral at all. If he is on a downward spiral so is Clarke who went Championship - big move that didn’t work out - Sunderland in L1/ Championship play offs. Obviously thats a risible comment but because you’re such a massive brain you’ll no doubt confirm otherwise to yourself.

Quite a big moment this. Chatter suggests that Clarke and the club are both keen to thrash out a new deal. If he is willing to turn down Premier League clubs to stay its a massive coup for the club and further proof that these players believe in what we're doing. Also shows that KLD and the board wont be selling at the first sign of a big wedge. And £9m to this club atm is gigantic, make no mistake about it.

If this is the sign of things to come then this club can go wherever it f***ing wants.
