Bid rejected for Clarke

Build a team around players like him to what end? We can't compete with top teams without selling players and reinvesting. That is the Dortmund model whilst competing with Bayern, and it's the current Brentford and Brighton models whilst challenging for Europe. It's tried, tested, and evidently works when people with competence are involved.

Players aren't assets with an infinite lifetime either, they have contracts, natural goals, and peaks - it's down to the club to have the confidence and intelligence to know when to sign and sell players based around those factors.

To what end?

To build a team capable of getting us into the Premier League

Others have mentioned it but just based on other similar aged players moving to the championship the bids start from £20m

Aye the lad from hull last year was directly comparable to Clarke, same age, English and a very similar season with goals and assists. Not sure how long he had left on his Hull contract but presumably at lest 2 years. He's since made 12 appearances for Brentford, no goals, dunno stats for assists.

Computer says no.

I hope Speakman found the offer so insulting that he either hung up or has just deleted the email without giving a reply.

If the rumours are right that Spurs have a 30% sell on clause, 9M would give them 2.7M, leaving us with 6.3M.

Taking into account his stats last season, the length of contract and the fact he is homegrown that fee doesn't even scratch the surface.
aye..while i think a few of the numbers in this thread are a tad optimistic..£9mn is so low it cant even see the ball park..never mind be in the rght one..

Is that not what we're doing now? We've went from midtable League One to Championship Playoffs in just over a year.

What happens when we get to the Premier League with your system of not selling anyone? Just hope we can survive because we don't want to sell our best players, and can't compete with the teams with an unlimited amount of money to dispose on players?
