Bid rejected for Clarke

I don’t agree with this policy of buy young, sell for a profit.
What about buy young bring them on and get us promoted ? Clarke is a star and we should realise that and pay him enough to want to stay.
Same with Roberts, Stewart, Patterson, Ballard, Cirkin, ONien, Gooch etc.
Keep them together. If they are good enough and I think they are, they will get us promoted and their value will go up anyway.
Hang on to them.
Thing is, if he wants to go and a PL team offers him 40k+ a week. We start matching them wages for the squad then we're gonna get hit with the FFP points deduction if we fail to get promoted. It's why our recruitment has to be spot on.

We need money from somewhere and if players are attracting bids from premiership clubs then offering them similar wages will be the opposite.

Over 20m and it provides the club a massive opportunity to further strengthen.

This has always been the case. I know there’s always the Rule of Delph but I read an article where he said he’s had no stability in his career. Even at Sunderland he was signed by Lee Johnson and told what the plan was. Within 30 mins of playing and less than a week he was gone. Then Neil came in and played him. Then Neil left. Said it’s no good for a player. Right now he has a chance to play at Sunderland under a manager who rates him every week for decent money in a decent team.
He wasn't signed by Johnson.
im talking tactically we shouldnt sell any (except roberts who has peaked) this summer,..you are describing the longer term strateggic outlook..
You aren't "we" not Charlie and never will be. You have no idea if Roberts has peaked.

how about we do both,,like brentford..buy, sell and get promoted..
roberst also isnt young.

Saying that..I dont think we should sell any of the players we have..mpost are cats offs with one good season behind them...including clarke..and will be worth more woth two good seasons behind them

but clarke diod the move on quixckly for money thing before..it didnt work out..and in the end he had to slum it with SAFC in league one.
He’s not in a position where money isn’t everything that applies to players that have already earned millions

Well, I don’t know enough about that. You know more than me. What I do know is that keeping hold of our players in demand will only increase their value, that’s a fact.
Jack Clarke is being touted as replacing Zaha. Jack Clarke can make it big time, no doubt, why not with us rather than Crystal Palace or Brentford ?

sigh..sports science has a strong view on the age at which professional footballers peak..and roberts is rolling into tat age bracket now..
and by playing for SAFC..roberts is operating at a lower level than he had for much of his career..ie on a downward spiral..

well thats broadly true of copurse.

because crystal palace and brentford are in a higehr division..

I agree, I'd much rather not sell him.

But if he wants to go and we sell him for say £25m rather than match a contract we can't really afford I don't think it would be the worst thing.

The thing that Jack needs to remember is the grass isn’t always greener.. a lot of players have left us and it’s gone downhill for them E.g. Bent off the top of my head. I can only think or hendo and Pickford whose gone onto better things?

He should leave it a year and get more games under his belt. If he performs as well as this season.. he could easily make more money. He’s good enough that he’ll get his move anyway.. so give it another season and crack on. Hopefully it’ll be us giving him the big pay day when we’re in the prem.

Can anyone tell me the point of selling our best players, even for a good price? Promotion is worth hundreds of millions so selling good players does not make any sense. If a player wants to leave then I'd consider selling to avoid disruption to team morale.
You've answered your own question.

He's probably off eventually this window.. we can't compete with the Prem wages. Hopefully we hold out and get the best value possible, I really think we can manage 25m given his age and nationality

I ignore you as a rule and your latest reply reminds me why I do. I’m saying offer him enough money to keep him here. Go up with us.
He has already experienced great times with us ffs.
Anyway you are back on ignore you Doyle.
