Ben Middlemass

I don't want to be negative but promotion to the premier league probably means unless they are really special. A lot of the under 21s will be moved on
Tbf the clubs job is to give them a career and grounding in the game. If it’s here or elsewhere so be it. Be great to have some come through and make the step up mind.
Yes. I do think middle championship to top of league 1 is an excellent career. Ive always judged our youth teams by how many professionals they produce rather than how many premier league players. You dont have to be Jordan Henderson to count as a success for a youth programme.
Yep. Nailed it

A lot of our U21’s would improve many of the teams in L1 and mid Championship
Hopefully there were scouts watching the game yesterday. These lads deserve a good career

I suspect anyone baring Finn Geragusyan, Trey Ogunsuyi and Timur T the rest won't make it at Sunderland in the Premier League, for me only Geragusyan has chance at top top level (Think of Riggs potential)

Although, could be players we sell for say 100 grand with a sell on fee, rather than release players

Remember the Adam Richardson hype at 15/16? Now he's 22 and played higher than Step 3 in non league.

Massive shame mind, like all us id love 11 north east lads playing for the club

Id disagree because only Harrison Jones (from memory) played back end of last season, if they had that level they would been pushing the sqaud last season

Alot them will drop out pro football or drop National League/NLN ie Caden Kelly, highly rated had trials at clubs but ultimately was told he stayed in system too long (from what i can gather from someone flagged him as possible signing in league 2), because 21s football past 19, is a waste of time

For me get them out on loan at 17 playing Mens football, 28 day loans to Hebburn, Morepth, Stockton, Bishop Auckland, Blyth Spartans etc will do them the world of good, then 18 plus you look at National league/L2, 19 L1 and up

Don’t be such a misery/ realist

Tom Lavery has an outside chance as well.

Looks to be having a decent season at Cliftonville. He's not going to play for us next year but there's still time to work his way into a squad

When it comes to that I am, because I have mates who were hyped up as the next big thing and people would say they'll be playing League 1 or 2 next year, when in reality 4/5 years on they are playing in the Northern Prem East or the bench in the Northern League
Absolutely agree. Kids are hyped up on here and in the Academy then reality is nearly always harsh. Even at League 1 or League 2 there is so much competition it’s incredibly hard to break in.
Physicality may be the decider for Ben. Hope he makes it, I think he’s a quality player.

I think the problem is that these academy players are being trained to play a certain style of football of technical proficiency... ...then if they get say a league one opportunity they're scarcely trained to play that brand of football. That's why I think a French/Swiss/Belgian/Dutch feeder club would be ideal. If think Mundle and Madueke have benefitted from progressing from academy football into European domestic leagues.
