Been out with a mag mate...

I was speaking to a mag last week and he told they were guaranteed the League Cup, promotion (as champions) and a top 10 finish next season. I asked how all of this was going to happen and his response was "Rafa".

Obviously I couldn't argue with that logic.

re: the Blackburn loss, I understand why Rafa rotated with one eye on the cup game, but he perhaps made too many changes (3 out of the back four) and the rhythm of the team was lost. Bad day at the office, but I'm glad we've got that cushion between us and the play-off places.

He's a world class manager in places like spain where the leagues have like 5 good clubs, sure. The premier league is a hard game every match, anything can happen. Just look at conte and guardiola, all finding it hard. The championship is a hard slog but the quality is poor, stick a world class manager in, and he can do it like he is. Like you say, his test is a full premier league season.

How would you feel about Rafa is it went pear shaped and you ended up losing out on promotion. Genuine question as many NUFC have overlooked the fact that he was in charge when you got relegated.

I'm personally struggling to work out what's more strange;

NUFC fans throwing such adulation at Rafa so early in his reign.

or

SAFC fans getting so worked up about it.

From the position we are in i'd say an epic fail.at the start of the season i didnt go with the media hype we were gonna walk it, we dont ever do things easily.

Would i want rid of him if he failed from here? No.....he'd get another chance because of something i cant explain, maybe more to do with the distain we held the previous fuckers who managed us tbh.

Id be very dissapointed in him if he fucked up from here to answer the question

Genuine answer to that Hypothetical?

Well, if he lead us to over 100 points and we were pipped to the automatic spots by Brighton and Reading's 100% winning streak, then lost out to an corrupt official in the Play Offs, I'd not blame him. ;)

If Rafa assembled the team, had pre-season, had a January window to address any issues and still failed to get us promotion, it's all on him. I'd be gutted and angry and baffled, because from what I've seen so far we're more than capable of getting promotion and are odds on for the title, so there would have had to have been a seismic collapse.

But the question is a little silly, I mean, how would you feel about Kevin Phillips if he took over from Moyes and took you down with the lowest points total possible, selling Pickford for buttons and falling out with Defoe to the point Jermain leaves on a free to Middlesbrough. Or how would you feel if Shola Ameobi took over from Moyes and got you safe and won you a cup?

Your hypothetical is daft and arranged in such a way as to try to either get a Newcastle fan to forgive Rafa Benitez for any mistakes/failures/crimes, OR admit that he's not infallible despite never having claimed that in the first place.

Also, as an aside, I don't think any Newcastle fan overlooks the fact Benitez was in charge when we were relegated, we're just not blaming him entirely. His slice of the blame pie is small compared to his predecessors, the players and the owner.

ok then...fuck off mag.

Our current squad right at this moment is better than yours and IMO would be capable of surviving in the premier league, I would only take about 4-5 of your players and not all 5 would start either.

Next season if and when we go up, we will invest and Rafa will have us more than just surviving also IMO.

Nobody is talking European spots yet but if I had to predict I'd say a comfortable first season back in the top flight.
fuck, I have never, ever been that drunk!!!

Seems like many of you can't even have a civil debate with a Newcastle fan before the "fuck off mag" lines come out. I get that this is a SMB but the quality of posts recently has been below the normal standard.

Not sure I completely agree with the point of view that he took them down so he must be shit

He averaged 1.3 points per game for the 10 games he was in charge of them in the premiership, to put that into perspective, that works out 49 points over a full season of 38 games, or 11th place. I know it doesn't work like that, but it was an obvious improvement from McClaren, of course he ultimately failed to keep them up, but does anyone really think that was Rafa's fault? They were shite long before Rafa took over

He's a quality manager who has won titles all over the world and I'd have him here in a heartbeat

If Newcastle had beaten either Sunderland, Norwich or Villa they would have survived. A "World class manager" picked up 2/9 points from those games. Very very poor.

We have been in worse shite than the Mags in less time and survived. Both Paolo Di Canio and Dick Advocaat did it. I don't remember them being lauded in the press.

You are a Mag.
