To quote Barry Davies. Why the fuck was he even up there for the assist for Hume ?
I obviously love all of those glorious heroes, but here goes.....
My lad absolutely loves football. He plays and tries his hardest, it doesn't come easy to him.
All kids grow up hoping to be Messi or Ronaldo, and if you're that good, fantastic be Messi or Ronaldo!
But if you're not that good, you can be Luke O'Nien.
You can be the best pro you can, own up to your mistakes - pour over them and keep learning.
You can be the best person behind the scenes, setting the right example.
You can be "limited" in ability but work your backside off day in day out for a couple of decades. And in the end, if your lucky..... You might end up being the person and the player Luke is.
I think Luke O'Nien might be the best possible example to any little footballers out there. And I'm absolutely buzzing he's been part of our journey.
(*And I'm not saying he's a limited footballer in any sense, some of them cross field, 45 yard pings are an absolute joy to behold).
This could also be a Henderson post.I obviously love all of those glorious heroes, but here goes.....

Scenes when he nods in the winner vs... lets say Roma... who are we playing next season then lets get the table up?!Suddenly becomes even more important for next season. He was excellent yesterday again and if he keeps himself in top shape which we know he will, he’ll get plenty of football next season in Europe!!
There's something so Sunderland about O'NienI obviously love all of those glorious heroes, but here goes.....

Technically I think he’s still club captain. I think Dan Neil was team captain.I honestly thought he would be finished at this level and we were only hanging onto him for sentimentality and/or some sense of continuity.
Model pro whose total commitment and work effort makes up for his lack of natural ability. To have the captainship taken off you and handed to someone new to the team and be a model pro about it speaks volumes about his character.
Only fitting. Hes been written off at every single stage hasn't he!
What a tramp! The limited footballer isn't washing anymore, he is very competent and improves year on year
