[BBC] Miners' Di Canio protest 'will only end with Sunderland campaign support'

Add to this I will now also be cancelling my Labour Party membership, I do not wish to be associated with these sorts any longer.

So an organisation who, judging by many posts on here, have little support amongst the people they claim to represent, have issued a join us or else threat to a sports club that has a history of celebrating the people and industry that the organisation claims to represent because the sports club employed someone who in the last 72 hours has declared that he does not believe in the dictartorial politics that the organisation is protesting against?

Am I missing something here?

Hopper took it upon himself to contact all the local Labour Party branches looking for support over the demand for the return of the banner.Sensible ones like mine ignored him. Places like Jarrow -where there is a substantial mag presence - fell for it and supported him . Like we don't have better things to do...welfare cuts, bedroom tax etc.

So the Club joins this "campaign". Every fruit cake in the bnp edl neo Nazi groups and half wits start to counter demonstrate at the Club on match days. Really bright idea but then it will show the DMA was right all along and Sunderland does have a problem with the right.

We would then be in the news every home game for the wrong reason, blackening our name but the lefties would all be sitting around their committee rooms grinning their heads off and slapping each other on the back.

Please, please Mr Short tell these deluded twats to take their banner and have a protest march on the river Wear

I rarely sing at matches and I don't like foul language, but I'd be delighted to hear The South Stand telling Mr Hopper exactly what they think of him and where he can place his banner at the Everton match, and in the choicest language.

The latest published rubbish by the LW. Bet that picture of Paolo is in the sunday papers tomorrow.

2008, 2005...all in the past..they have nothing new because he had said or done nothing for years..maybe he realised it was just silly and got over it

its possible people do have a bit common sense every now and then

its pathetic muck raking now

Where's the campaign to bring into public mind that these dinosaurs are the same ones who still glorify the Soviet Union, Marxism and Lenin.

They are and were quiet happy to have dictatorship by another name.

They were also the same people who led the miners into the worst judged dispute in UK industrial history. "Lions led by donkeys" was how Kinnock rightly described their like.

There is no balance in what is been portrayed and its not the clubs part to start getting into counter augments on politics but these guys are firmly stood in glass houses!!

rag the banner down and stick it up their arses, quite frankly these bother mongerers have brought embarrassment to the club and themselves - so they can get fucked, they don't represent or speak for me ;)

I cant see how this can do anything but lose votes for labour in the NE. Sadly not enough.

Make no mistake about it, this us about the DMA trying to gain publicity for themselves and nothing else. The irony for me is that I wouldn't like to have been a black man walking into a pit village WMC back in the day.

"We live in dangerous times and there is a problem with the far-right in the area."

Jobs disappearing to cheaper labor markets in the far east, North Korea threatening to start world war 3 and these dopey twats think a few people protesting because they don't want a mosque on their doorstep is a problem  they are f***ing unreal man ...........

and the protests started well before Di Canio got here so he cannot be blamed for that

Maybe there is support for the right in the area as the left have failed us since time began??

A very valid point that, but the left lot still don't live in the real world.

So its ok to support a dictatorial group, as supporting the other group has not worked?

Its just an excuse to vent frustration imo, blatant excuse to cause trouble imo.

The club's response should be "How, Hopper, Gan fuck yer'sell"

Doesn't need to be any more articulate for the uneducated buffoon

It's all starting to look rather pathetic and you know what no fucker else gives a fuck outside of the area

This..

It´s very much a local issue this, if we look at footy forums such as Bluemoon where I hang around the whole Di Canio issue was a single thread (25 pages) that discussed the pro´s and cons of the appointment before focusing on slagging City managers of the past :)

The other group that now sit in working mans clubs every day now lamenting past glories of being lazy fuckers and getting well paid for it, they are just terrified they'll get their beer money stopped ;)

I'm an ex-Wearmouth miner as was my dad. We were both supported the union for a full year on strike in 84-85 & my dad even kept paying his union subs long after retiring.

Last year my dad got the union to win a case for him & he was awarded a couple of grand for some pit related ailment (dodgy knees or summat, not white finger). On winning his case the N.U.M. asked if they could have about 10% of my dad's 'winnings'. My dad said "no" arguing that he had paid his union subs for donkeys years, even after retiring, & at the end of the day he was paying his subs for the union to do their jobs anyway, namely to fight his case.

Hopper's response - he kicked my 72 year old dad out of the union after all the subs my dad had paid into the union for decades.

Fuck the N.U.M. They are money grabbing pigs.

SAFC is a football club and not a political football.
