Bazball

Smith has a point.

It's good that players like Bairstow are playing to their strengths but English wickets this season have been as dead as a doornail in the fourth innings, with the new Dukes ball. How many matches have we, as Durham fans, seen peter out into draws from strong positions because the wicket was doing nothing on day four? Throwing the bat on spicy wickets could simply result in 80 all out, like when we tried this approach under Bayliss. You can't say England have reinvented test cricket till we've successfully employed the strategy away from home.
There will win more games playing this way than before, because not only does this approach take the draw out of the equation the majority of times, it is clearly giving the players bags and bags of confidence and taking away fear of failure.

They have clarity and confidence.

There will be times they fall flat on their face on spicy wickets playing this way that is inevitable just a matter of time.

But it will turn out a more successful and entertaining approach than the last 3/4 years!

However as for the point made by Smith

Them 3 bowlers are soo good that on a spicy wicket, the likelihood is even with a more defensive approach they would still bowl us out for a low score as was proved in the Ashes down there, where it was more or less 5 0.

So what’s to lose giving it back to him and continuing a attacking approach it certainly worked against them in 2005.
It's certainly entertaining, and it'll be interesting to see how they manage with this approach on unfamiliar wickets.

I just hope that they still look to pick batsmen who value their wicket as I think you still need at least 1 batsman in the top 6 who can drop anchor a bit. Lees is in that mould but looks better being more positive, a Trott type figure at 2 or 3 would be ideal!
Yeah like anything mate, it’s about balance and getting the balance right between attack and defense based on wickets, conditions and game situation

Every opponent will prepare bowling wickets if they know we're going to go full offensive regardless of the conditions. India in India could be a trainwreck.

It's certainly entertaining at the moment.

Yes,playing on sub- continent with spinning conditions will continue to be a challenge, nothing changed there, but if the convicts wish to prepare bowling wickets bring it on. Jimmy will be licking his lips.Don't think England's positive approach is totally gungho. Root and Bairstow, in particular, have been positive but still playing the ball on its merits.

Yeah agree totally one the most impressive things about those two has been the rotation of strike and minimal dot balls.

Doing that keeps the scoreboard ticking and put pressure back in the bowlers.

Aggression and been positive doesn’t have to mean hitting the ball out the park all the time.
