BazBall is Dead

Pretty much said what I've needed to for a very long time. I'm not at all shocked by any of this. Whole setup from the ECB and this side setup is absolutely rotten and arrogant. I've said it so many times and I'll say it again.... Pick players based on County Cricket form. If they don't want to play County Cricket that's entirely fine but piss off thinking of representing your country.

For all the understandable focus on the way the side bats, I think this series has exposed even more the way it collectively bowls. The if in doubt, drop it short, and if that doesn’t work drop it shorter still mentality has been exposed for the bollocks it always was, particularly in the second innings at Perth and in the first innings at Brisbane. But also to some degree yesterday. The real story of this series is that England have been comprehensively outbowled. Whether this much vaunted attack ever had the ability we will never really know, because the tactics were so poor.

You can sack who you want, we'll still be rubbish.
Hard to disagree really, although they all need to go anyway after such a monumental failure.

Sadly these are still by and large the best this country has to offer, which is obviously nowhere near the standard required. In other words, cricket in this country is in a very bad place and only going to get worse.

Much vaunted attack? Really?

For me the jury was out on the bowling attack going into the series.

Archer - Yes, on his day borderline unplayable, but very inconsistent in terms of when that happens.
Wood - Will get injured.
Atkinson - Very promising. Was interested to see how he'd so over there.
Carse - Has shown he can take wickets but offer virtually zero control.
Tongue - Again, can take some wickets but is very wild at times.
Potts - The most consistent bowler in the pace attack but coming off a poor season for Durham.
Bashir - Nowhere near good enough yet, IMO.

And none of that has changed based on this 2.5 games.

Compared to other attacks we've taken over to Australia, this one was poor IMO.

I do agree the tactics have been poor though and have not helped in the slightest.

Sums up our bowling attack perfectly.
We’ll never know if there are “journeymen” CC players ready to step up because the current selection policy is based upon a closed shop of players (who are failing) and left field picks based upon hunches and you tube clips of county second teamers ☹️

Players were picked on county form last few tours down under and were stuffed as well and had Hameed and Burns opening which was horrendous last time.

Players were picked on county form when we were winning 1 in 17 tests.

There is a lot of soul searching and mistakes made that all agree need fixing.

But it’s far from as simple as simply picking players on county form as history proves.

It’s been extremely disappointing how our bowling has been apart from that first test first innings.

Had everyone fit going into that first test and no excuses bowled terrible as a whole.

I can handle us being rubbish if it's based on County form, I don't have an issue with that selection method.

I hope this is the model going forward regardless how good or bad it is.

This arrogant selection method isn't working and it's absolutely rotten.

I'm a big believer in reward based on form. That doesn't happen with the ECB
