Makes sense. Rather than have to review and publish two sets of laws, now they only have to do it once.
Given the laws apply to both genders it makes sense
Batsmen will still be used interchangeably when talking about mens cricket

Simplification, innit? Batter takes up less room than Batter/Battsman/Batswoman/Batsperson. I reckon battsman is featured in the laws a canny few times. Surely it’s easier to read if you just write batter.
