Ballard

I think that was a rare example of a common sense decision - it would've ruined the game and it wasn't a headbutt in any real sense.

I know Ballard didn't intentionally yank his hair, but he did intentionally commit a foul and so the cyborgs on the ref panel aren't going to give him any leeway.
See this is what I disagree with. If something is a red card offence in a Wolves v Sunderland game because it is the "letter of the law", then it should be a red card in a Man City v Arsenal game.....hate all this "he used common sense because it was a big game" bollocks.

This.

Along with the bollocks about "the ref needs to be more lenient as the player is already booked", "he has to decide if it's worthy of a sending off". No, no it's not. It's worthy of a booking though, and if they're already booked then it's tough chuckies.

Not that bookings have anything to do with this, I just fancied a moan. :D

The inconsistency is dreadful in football at the moment and I really feel as if football has lost its soul. The powers that be need to be very careful as for me the game has gone as things stand. I said on Saturday that this offence will be changed unfortunately too late for Sunderland and Ballard.

Anyone remember when crouchy blatantly pulled a defenders poneytail back to score a goal for england (in world cup i think?)..found it

Im still angry at that lass on Saturday's Sky Sports covering our game, she said 'exactly' Ballard grabbed his hair and pulled him to the ground.😳
I watched the full match replay back and Efan Ekoku’s commentary was rank.

“It’s more of a pull than the Martinez one. Just leave the field, no point in arguing, just leave the field, just daft. It’s a sign of weakness when you can’t compete with a centre forward on a level playing field”

Minging commentary.

Yeah I think at the end of the season the law will be changed to a red card but only a one match ban, still shite like.

Exactly, it was shocking the way she reported it.

This is how you do it. Off the ball, when the ref doesn’t see it.

The ref didn't see Ballard - thats how violent it was!

I hope Brobby becomes a Rasta and grows some dreadlocks before next season.

That's slightly different as I believe refs are advised to use a slightly higher threshold for a second yellow card.

Whether you agree with whether that's right is another matter.

It was funny in the Palace v Leeds game seeing the ref panic when he realised he'd already booked Gudmundsson and had to send him off. Mad rule.

Absolutely spot on.
Ban will be upheld but Ballard will be the last to be done for it. We may see it reduced to two games but I doubt it.

Two things really piss me of about the red card:
For violent conduct there surely has to be intent. There clearly was not obviously intent to pull the lad’s hair, he was grabbing his shirt (hair got in the way). Not deliberate. A bit like usually VAR will analyse a flailing elbow when two players jump for a ball. You can tell intent from accidental.

2. Why did VAR get involved? Was it a clear and obvious error, ie did the ref miss an intentional act of violent conduct?
No. Had the ref seen it, interpreted it as deliberate and sent Ballard off, I don’t think it would have been overturned.
But he didn’t. And it wasn’t. It was a shocking VAR intervention.

There are many football fans who feel that VAR should be thrown out of the window and never heard of again. It is ruining football.

Only saw the highlights but I personally thought Ballard's sending off was harsh and proved pivotal which was a shame as we started well. Wolves were very poor and we would have beaten them had it not been for a silly red card.

Michael Keane makes potentially leg breaking challenge, is given a yellow card and VAR clears red card while Ballard accidentally pulls 2 strands of dreadlocks and received a red card and a 3 match ban. Calvert Lewin in the fa cup semi final was let go after a VAR check i believe as well. Consistently inconsistent.
