Ball Boys

People will scoff but it is an area that the club needs to improve - every little helps. Would be pretty simple to sort out too, never understood why we don't use the "multi-ball" system.

How about somebody telling the arsehole footballers how to to behave.

Yes it was Reece James, and it was about 25 yards. It didn't help that the ball had been booted out, hit the seat next to us and rebounded back down the track, the lad probably didn't see it till late.
See what happens when we have empty seats. I blame all these fans not attending. An attendee could of caught it and hoyed it straight back in like bonny lad.

He’s just a bairn. It’s not his fault. The club should have regular ball boys and have them trained / briefed properly.

There were blokes around me f***ing screaming at that kid. Nee need.
Should have got the ball back then they wouldn’t have to scream at him

(Don’t know how to do white text but I’m just kidding;))

simple solution as the ball boys/girls are been invited by sunderland could we not double the amount of ball boys so we have then both sides of the advertising hoardings covered and also in the 4 corners of the pitch as some of the kids struggle to get over the hoardings .

I thought it used to be the academy lads and lasses that did it?

next time we're winning and under the cosh with a few minutes remaining people will be screaming at them to take their time.
Well hopefully if they have been told how to react in different situations they will know what to do. It’s just being professional at all levels!

not sure i'd like that. i vaguely remember one of our keepers (macho?) hoying a strop at one of the ballboys down at brighton a few years back. they're only kids, if we resort to teach them gamesmanship it's a sad day.

When I say this I get attacked, in thread and by PM. Wonder if the OP has had the same treatment

Is this serious?

They are there to do a job and they are not very good at it - probably because they haven't been told what is required of them. And as has been mentioned they are changed every match so they never get chance to improve.

It's an area that could be improved and if you can improve lots of things by 1% - it can make a difference. I repeat, I'm not having a go at the kids - but it's an area that needs looking at. It can't be that difficult
Absolute bollix, they didnt do much wrong last night and to be honest they could gee the ball back within a second yet the thrower will still be hesitating in which two players to throw it to. Unreal that people are havin a go at the ballboys, mag-esque behaviour.

I've always wondered about the multi ball thing, it must be a law as it's not done anywhere. Seems bizarre as it's then used in Europe and internationals so we're hindering ourselves.

Was it in Howard wilkinson's first match when the ball boys all suddenly became super switched on and professional? Was like polishing a turd with Steve cotterill.

frustrating to see our Ball Boys ambling after the ball and rolling it back to them half arsed!.

At least yours amble after the ball. On numberous occasions we have seen ours sit on their arses chatting while the goalkeeper has gone climbing over seats in the away end to collect the ball. The stewards retrieve more balls than our lazy fecking ball boys.

It was brought up at a recent fans forum with the owners

half the time they aren't watching the game to notice the ball is coming their way. It's only a little thing but they should be aware enough to be alert when we need ball returning quickly, or if we are winning to take their time etc. Agree that its nice for lots of people to get the opportunity, but feel like youth teams at the club should probably be doing it or have people from the black cat kids membership sign up, and have a pool of kids who get selected each game. You see a lot of the 'big' teams who have their ball boys/girls who are alert and know what they are doing depending on the game situation

:) I know what you mean and it is a bit frustrating, however, having a go at and even shouting at the ball boys! Has it got that bad?:)
