Bad Preparation

Comes as absolutely no surprise whatsoever that England have started yet another away series by playing like utter wankers - a glorified net session that is a two day friendly is quite clearly not preparation enough for a pink ball Test.

Neither for that matter is a two day Red Ball friendly for a normal Test Match. I'm sick to death of England being undercooked, time after time we are found wanting because their preparation is shit.

Surely some of the people involved with the decision making, if not the players themselves can see it isn't enough conditioning?

I think I'm right in saying that the last time we had proper preparation was India 2012, which was for me our finest away performance (aside from the 2010/11 Ashes) , but unfortunately players are that keen to keep tours as short as possible that they don't factor in sufficient warm up time.

Clearly the shorter formats are a factor, because there's more Cricket to schedule into these tours, but Red Ball Cricket is still king, maybe only just, but that is where the focus has to be.

It's time for a change.

New Zealand turned a good side out if I remember correctly. Could easily of had a competitive four day game rather than the farce that seemed to take place. I think this shows how inadequate the people in the England set up are

Not entirely sure you can blame the players for wanting to keep the tour as short as possible really, given they go on forever these days, with an absurd amount of international cricket packed in.

With they said, the level of preparation is pathetic, and is a big reason behind us being so shit on tour. Even the warm up for the Ashes, playing against a bunch of shepherds, was ludicrous.

Touring teams are also in the hands of the host country in putting up a team that can be fairly competitive. England cricket aren't angels in this regard either, it's usually one of the lesser counties and often the county plays second string players.

As far as NZ are concerned I read the other day that NZ cricket made sure England wouldn't face a left arm bowler and so wouldn't have much opportunity to prepare for Boult and Wagner - not sure there's any truth in that.

I'm literally basing this on nothing but their previous history of good fair play, but I'd be very surprised if NZ stipulated that. They're one of the good guys of the game.

Agreed

They should either play:

The Lions
A new test nation

At least that way it’s competitive cricket
But a major part will be adapting to conditions .... in which case they have to play a local team .....

maybe they could play a 'barbarians' type team with invitees from the host country and others to make up the numbers. (This should be easier to arrange although it would still need cooperation from the host country)

Host countries won’t cooperate. Hell, we don’t. We pick second string attack’s

At least my suggestions means it would be aggressive cricket

Kuggleijn, Bracewell, a couple of other decent bowlers and almost the full batting line up is not a lack of cooperation from NZ
