BA sale now on

If wanting New York, and planning to do Business Class, also look at First Class.
When I was travelling back and forth to Houston it was Business, on companies bill. I would say around 50% of the time I did First Class as the premium was usually only a couple of hundred. Once, or twice, it was actually cheaper.

Unfortunately I'm still mainly an Economy traveller on long haul or occasionally Premium Econ if I can get a decent price. Don't travel internationally for work these days (thanks to Teams calls) so all my flying is self-funded

I still manage to maintain BA Silver which is good for all of the landside benefits plus priority seat selection and the occasional free upgrade.

My Gold BA status will lapse in March. Like you I will try to maintain the Silver.

SIlver is the sweet spot in BAEC. Bronze isn't worth much and Gold takes a lot of effort (and money) to attain. You really need to be flying long haul in business a few times a year. Fair enough if you are doing it for work but it's a lot to pull out of your own pocket.

Big changes to the BA Executive Club - and not good ones.

Looks like it's the end for my Silver status then. They've just made it a scheme for those who fly on full fare tickets paid by someone else.

Latest sale is on now but the prices seem higher than they were a month ago - just seems one big con 🙄

Airline "sales" often are as they never tell you what the previous non-sale price was so you don't know if you are getting a deal or not.

Just checked back and even though I flew Business to Houston 5 times last year I still would have been short of gold.

Im giving virgin credit cards a bash as using BA became a farce.

I fluked silver, well by fluked I mean had a good year trip wise and the double tier point offer helped….i’ll tip over the 600 needed for Silver next year so will have it till July 26, but after that I doubt I’ll get close under normal circumstances.

Will gan me ends in the lounges while I can :)

100%, they have ended status for leisure flyers. Effectively shat on a large amount of its frequent flyers.

I was a loyal BA customer but once my status ends in march 2026 they can swivel.

Aye we fly loads with them each year, but they can go f*ck themselves now.
Ive seen quite a few who are for the change, nearly all are business flyers who dont pay for their flights, and they complain that the lounges are ‘too full of holiday makers’.

Its always been a worry that travel would soon become only for the wealthy as they try to fit into a more environmental thinking industry, this is a major move toward that.

As far as BA are concerned, ill use up my avios and avail myself of all the perks until my status ends, then ill do what they want, leave the flying with them to company people paying full price, and chase the cheapest flights regardless

Same here. I recently re-qualified for Siver and have 200,000 Avios in the bank so over the next year I will just burn those on flights and then use EasyJet, Emirates or whoever is the cheapest. I've been a loyal BA customer for over 20 years, Silver for most of them, but they can go screw themselves over this.

Their PR around this is embarrassing. " to give you more opportunities to unlock rewards" and "simplifying the way we reward your loyalty". They are dropping the Executive name yet making the Club more exclusive for business travellers who don't pay for their own tickets.

5x cross Atlantic flights in 1 year is a hell of of lot of “ lost time “
I consider driving to work 20 minutes as time that I won’t get back never mind 10x 9hrs or whatever it is never mind the time in airports and transport getting to the airport.

Pretty much 24hrs travel each way. By time do Newcastle to Heathrow and transit. Land in Houston. Pick up hire car and a 2.5hr drive. Travel days are paid and part of the rotation so not all bad.
