Away Fans at SOL Update

People: “argh, why aren’t the club doing something about away fans chucking objects at us?”

The very same people: “argh, why are the club trying to prevent away fans chucking objects at us?”
This will make it worse man

Away fans will now go out their way to chuck summit down now man as a big two fingers to the new security arrangement.

Do the mags need to do anything like this? I know they put away fans up at the top as well but haven’t heard of away fans lobbing stuff from above before.

Or do they have nets?

To be fair it was our fans that were chucking stuff at their place. Saw one knob lobbing a full chair. Could have killed someone

I doubt there's many people who will now decide to chuck something who otherwise wouldn't have prior to this decision like.
"I wouldn't have done it until they asked me not to officer".

Anyway, looks like they'll be moving them back down to the lower bowl next season so happy days.

I meant ones that were already intent on causing bother tbh

It was, they're easily concealable and any away fans wanting to take one in will have no bother getting it in.
That's the thing. The only ones who are gonna get caught out are normal away fans who don't know the rule. If i was intent on getting in with a vape, I'd have my coins in my socks and my vape slid down the side of my trainer. Unless they are going full scale airport style metal detectors and shoes off ........Well I just think it's crackers me TBH.

In the pub before the game and ya mate asks if you wanna goes halves on the fruit machine ...."Fuck that! What happens if we win!" As an away fan i would think that's taking the piss, and i totally agree throwing things at our fans is the main concern, but it just doesn't add up to work in anyway in my mind.

Let's hope it stops all future incidents, runs like clockwork, and the away fans don't kick off at certain situations when rules are implemented, but I have me doubts but Cardiff at home is as good as any to see how it works :lol:

From BBC Sport.

Sunderland ban away fans from bringing coins and vapes into the Stadium of Light after recent incidents.

If they can’t even deploy enough staff and dogs etc. to be able to whittle out flares then how are they going to be able to stop people from coming in with a pocket full of change? Seems like an absolute cop out to me

If a net doesn't stop the coins and can't be put in for circa 4 months anyway, and we can't move away fans until preseason, what options does that leave?

all i can do is picture something like this at one of our away games, it would be a mess and there'd be long threads on here saying how ridiculous it was, how long it took, how ineffective it was, and how totally pointless and inconvenient it was for everyone involved.

the decision has clearly been made by someone at the club who has a) never been to a game of football as a paying member of the public and/or b) never observed the away turnstiles before a game of football

Said the away fans were getting moved and they have basically just confirmed it with that statement about relocating the family zone. The family zone will be getting moved to one of the north corners and away fans will be in the south east corner.

I just don’t get it at all, banning coins and vapes isn’t going to stop people chucking already banned flairs, it’s mental. It’s just a case of the club putting out a statement to look like they’re doing something about it.

This is what should happen. Stick them in the family zone and move the family zone to the NE corner… I’m sure the fans from the NE corner won’t twist having to relocate slightly if the other alternative is being pelted with coins every other week.
