Ashes Inquest

Chose might be a bit generous. Australia played sensibly in the first innings at Perth and conceded a first innings lead for the first time in a dozen matches when the ashes had been alive. England had it right. Then by the accident of Kawaja’s back they stumbled on someone who very much employed the charge at the guns strategy but got away with it/ did it better. And we never recovered.

I’ll certainly give you that.

But this. The bowlers were the difference. And the keeper and what the fact that they actually had one, and what that did to support the bowlers. Not just the extreme pace failures though. The others were found wanting as well. For obvious reasons our system generates bowlers who can bowl on English spring and autumn wickets with an English ball. For equally obvious reasons that’s fuck all use in an Australian summer.
I don't know - the pitches over there were much more suitable to a 'Chris Woakes' than I Brydon Carse imo. Historically their pitches have been flat which is why we selected the 'point of difference' bowlers when if fact the Woakes, Anderson, Robinson types of the past would have been excellent imo,

Aye but that's not hopping on plane and suddenly bowling shit in another country - its about the different conditions and pitches. Away in Pakistan, India, Aus and even the last time in NZ the pitches just aren't / weren't conducive to 83mph accurate seamers. You need point of difference bowlers. In Australia this time you just needed the discipline to hit the top, of off stump which he has and our bowlers didn't.

Noticed Carl Hopkinson the fielding coach is back in the fold for Sri Lanka and the t20 WC. Have they learned their lesson or just happy to put more importance on fielding in white ball?!

Slight change of subject going back to our red ball cricketers never playing county cricket. Just noticed the latest round of Sheffield Shield results and loads of the Australian test side involved for their state sides. Our lot clearly can't be arsed and are well protected

I agree. But the Enhland bosses have got their heads in a right mess. It's as it they believe that cricketers get better by not playintg cricket!

And Stokes. I understand the captain's job is probably more time consuming than we know and that he's nearly always recovering from an injury, but surely, a few games at lesser intensity shouldn't be out of the question. It's got to help his batting if he spends time at the crease, surely.

Do like the comment about county cricket usually taking the blame but as it was largely ignored they can't do that this time
