Ashes 5th test - Sydney

Broad was the only one to put up any fight in the entire tour.

Maybe it's better to get really hammered so they can't hide behind some bad luck excuse
 

I've been to every ashes test here since 1994 and have never witnessed such a poor display even compared to the 06/07 tour or some of the dross that made up the touring teams of prior to that, especially from the alleged 'quality' in the side.

Half that team should never play for England again
 
What an absolute disgrace. The whole team, with the exception of Stokes and Broad, are simply not fit to wear the shirt. How is it possible to go through 5 tests facing exactly the same tactics in each one and not show any sign of learning how to deal with them.

Normally a 6 month gap before we play again would be really frustrating, but this time it's just a relief.

Bit harsh on Stokes like. Top of the batting averages, only player to get a century and a brilliant one at that, six wickets in an innings, averaging 32 with the ball in his first Ashes series against a team on top of their game.

Quite canny Stokes being top of the batting averages and Borthwick top of the bowling.
 
These guys need to get out of the england bubble and gain some confidence with their counties. But what do you do with batsmen with huge technical deficiencies? If they cant learn from 2 great batsmen in Flower and Gooch, what chance do we have?

New direction needed emphasising basic discipline in the batting and bowling.
 
The Chief Executive of the ECB stated his support for Cook and Flower then perhaps it is time for him to go as well if he cant see the trouble we are in. Idiot!

To keep shuffling the team and get thrashed in each test is symptomatic of systemic failure at backroom level. To keep this set up until 2015 will simply hammer more nails into the coffin of English cricket - get the fuckers hounded out I say!

It'd probably me more accurate to say that Broad was the only senior player to put up any fight (as Boycott said on 5Live this morning).

Definitely, what a complete f***ing cretin. Has he any idea how angry the English cricket fans are?
 
Its the persistent failure of the most senior players thats had me baffled. You could assume the pressure of captaincy is affecting Cook, but hes looked so out of sorts when we've seen how consistent and dependable hes been in the past. Bell has lost form and KP has struggled to show what hes capable of. Prior has looked all out of shape with the bat for ages now and even his keeping was beginning to look suspect.

Even more baffling though is how the same players continued to lose their wickets in the same manor, wafting at wide balls that didn't need to be played at.

The 'plan' with the bat has seemed to be all about staying in rather than scoring runs, its made it so easy for their attack to build up pressure an inevitably take wickets. If you get bogged down its only a matter of time.

The 'plan' with the ball has been poor as well, the mirror opposite of the Aussie bowlers as we seemingly struggle to build up any pressure. Saying that, we've had them 5 or so wickets down a few times and haven't been able to deal with Haddin and the tail.

All in all a lot of questions need to be asked. I just hope such a comprehensive defeat gets the fires burning inside some of the senior players again.

especially when as a spinner day 4/5 is where you do the damage.. we didn't bowl for too long after lunch on day 3 :rolleyes:

So englands best player in stokes didn't exist then?

Just seen Clarke's interview after the match, how on earth was he able keep to keep a straight face whilst saying that England gave them a really hard series?
