Ashes 5th test - Sydney

Is it any wonder? He has batted every position from 1 to 7 in the 15 tests he has played yet still managed an average of 40
27 in this series though. I agree with Brandon, I think it's a good idea to take him out of the firing line. He's been getting out too often in the same way, doesn't get on the front foot and just wafts at full balls outside off stump. I wouldn't write off him and Bairstow, definitely not Root, but they've both got technical deficiencies that are being exposed at test level and they need to go and sort them out.[DOUBLEPOST=1388703681][/DOUBLEPOST]

That's his strike rate, mate. Not that there's much difference between the two.

Having said that bbc says it's grey overhead, green wicket.....we'll skittle them, be level by the close and win by an innings, Scotty wrapping up the second innings.;)

Hussein called Borthwick a batsman who bowls a bit of leg spin then later a bits and pieces bowler.
I know Scott's just had a great season with the bat but am I missing something here?

Got to wonder why we're are doing this, I've got work to do tomorrow.

Pleased for Scotty but come on man, we are a flipping mess.

Short sighted - Carberry isn't going to be around for the next Ashes. Root has been shunted up and down the order in his short career and shown his ability with the big hundred in the summer yet they drop him at the first sign of a dip in form

This is England from the 90s
he has had 2 scores in 2series and the 180 he was dropped early on

Are there ODIs to follow, or is this nightmare of a tour over once the 5-0 is confirmed on Sunday?
5 ODI's (with a warm up game after the 1st international, obviously) and 3 T20s, finish in February

Just looking at the schedule and we play 3 ODI's in the West Indies staring before the end of February? What the hell is the point of them? The T20s I can understand as they're warm ups before the t20 world cup but is it any wonder players are getting burnt out? I doubt there'll be many first teamers (whoever they are now) in those 3 games

Is Monty injured? Seems a strange decision to play Borthwick as sole spinner, SCG is usually a spinner friendly wicket.

He was a doubt with a calf injury but I think it may have been the last we've seen of him. Cook didn't seem to want to bowl him in the last match

Aye, bringing on Root with a defensive field setting, the arse. For his faults Panesar is still our best spinner post Swann.
