Ashes 5 test - The Oval

Ball will starting doing a fair bit after tea.

Aye, there'll be reverse I reckon.

Leach has been poor for me here. You need more pressure from the spinner. For me, an on-form Ali is still the best we have and if they'd just sign Saqlain on a permanent contract we should bring him back. It's been a weird summer for a few, with the amount of cricket - but I still think he's worth persisting with. He won two matches in the situation last year versus India, arguably the best players of spin going. Outspun Ashwin. Leach won't be doing that ever, probably.

I think the lesson of this series is that we should give a few county batsman a try. Other than Stokes, Denly and Burns have been our best batsmen. So let's give the likes of Pope and Sibley a go too, see how they do. If we have Stokes, Buttler and Ali in there, there is still enough power hitters to go on the attack - and if they are combined with Anderson, Broad and Archer then we should also be able to take 20 wickets.

I really don’t think soo, they bowlers have been fabulous and that should be taken into account.

Some would have Denly out by now, but bit patience and he has played better.

Don’t think we should read too much into some batsman not getting runs against such a good attack with the number 1 bowler in the world in their ranks and bowling very very well

Maybe Pope for Bairstow, but would make no more changes than that.

I agree with both but @Comeback_Kenwyne more

We have enough power in the lower middle order

Pope will play 5 or 6

I’d try Denly 3 with a new opener and route at 4

Play one of Buttler or bairstow as keeper

The issue is where stokes bats, and how much he will bowl

Would not be trying a new opener imo, and the lesson learnt for me in this series is how diffcult it is for opening batsman nowadays and that’s established opening batsman, never mind those making their debuts.

How many new opening batsman have we tried in recent years who have failed, plenty imo.

No reason to stop, we still need a number 3 and Denly is a number 3, 2 young openers, need trying.
