Ashes 5 test - The Oval

The no ball? It was pretty obviously a no ball

I almost thinks he’s deliberately underbowling him because he’s been criticised for his workload (nearly as many overs as broad in one test less)

Yeah thought that happened 2nd innings at old Trafford

I find this overbowled claim nonsense mind, Aussie media not complaining Cummins is over bowled

I mean at this point not giving him too much to do is probably wise. Long series and hes bowled a lot of it, dont want him getting Injured.

Hes actually increased his MPH since first test. But hes more experienced as well. I think stamina is a big part of it. Reasonable to assume his body is more conditioned for it.

Just think root lets things drift at times

Oh no question. One of the less positive things for me is that the switch from loss to series draw seems to have dampened the chat about his suitability as captain because hes poor, especially when it comes to fielding and bowling. He doesn't seem to understand momentum and preservation for his bowlers in particular

As I’ve already told you I wanted woakes dropped at lords

You can choose not to believe me but I said it.

There’s plenty to suggest, he finds swing when nobody else finds it, he should have played more than 1 game like, he was the best player in the team last summer against a better side than Australia.

Woakes has looked shattered all summer, his pace is miles down. And Overton isn’t a test quality bowler.

It’s not revisionism I’ve wanted him in the team s summer

Ok then. In the last English summer Woakes played took his wickets against Pakistan and India at 19 a piece. He then has a ten wicket match against Ireland at 8.50 a piece and then takes 4 for 106 in the first test at Edgbaston. Can you explain your thought process when you were going to drop him going into the Lords test?

Yeah I already have, he was way down on pace, 2nd innings at edgbaston looked totally ordinary

He’s just played a World Cup and it took it out of him, Curran hasn’t, he looks fresh as out. The team needed that energy sooner we let things drift in the series

I was at the Ireland game and it’s of no relevance, rushy would have had a tenfer

He’s taking wickets at over 30s like it’s how he’s performed all series, he looks knackered to me.

I don’t dislike him I just think we should have made change sooner, the narrative of the series was obvious early on

Woakes barely bowled 2nd innings at lords for a reason marra
Bowling well here mind

I wonder if archer knows how to bowl quicker of it just comes out the speed it comes out? He varies widely
Wouldn’t mind bit of Curran soon

We'll be fine. It's not as if they have the best batsman the game has seen since Bradman or anything!

oh

I don't necessarily disagree IF we had the five batsmen. Maybe the selection is dictated by the lack of proper red ball batters

Money going on Australia in the morning

I think the lesson of this series is that we should give a few county batsman a try. Other than Stokes, Denly and Burns have been our best batsmen. So let's give the likes of Pope and Sibley a go too, see how they do. If we have Stokes, Buttler and Ali in there, there is still enough power hitters to go on the attack - and if they are combined with Anderson, Broad and Archer then we should also be able to take 20 wickets.
