Tell your Dad you're in confession and sneak off to the Deafy

One of my Dad's tales involve football and religion. His parents were strictly religious and nothing got in the way of Church. Sunderland were playing Good Friday and Stanley Matthews was playing for Stoke. Dad was desperate to see him play, so he told his Mam he was going to the match not Church. She sent absolutely apeshit about it but he still went.

Imagine how he felt standing on the terraces and an annocement came over the tannoy explaining Stanley Matthews would not be playing as he was religious and didn't want to play on Good Friday
Evening all, hope its all going well. Lovely that @Ginger John .

Just been watching Frankfurt game. Enjoyed it. Crowd were impressive. Never stopped. Something to think about, maybe? Mind, it's not long ago (in my time jangled mind, at least) that we were arl singing "Red Army" for what seemed like half the match. That was in the SoL anarl. We did Mexican Waves, the lot. I was in the East Stand then, as now. Not sure what's changed. Probably, at a guess, society as a whole. More self conscious now, more self aware maybe? Pity, cos one of the great things about the match is that melding of pride, passion (to be clear, I'm talking something heartfelt as opposed to something that folk want to refer to, in a self-referential way on social chuffing media) & that hard to describe, spine-tingling oneness we all feel during certain shared moments during a game. It can be rekindled, if we collectively decide so....
