Anyone not wanting Europe?

I just want to beat Chelsea. If that gets Europe fair enough , if it doesnt I'm not fussed . Id far sooner go a long way in , and potentially win, the domestic cups next year but down town Lujubljana does have its allure .
Funny you mention them.

Messaged my mate who has a bar in Maribor last night. Would be a fecking dream going there. He’s hosted hull, wigan, celtic, chelsea iirc.

But somehow the bastards are now 5th in a shocking league.

If we qualify for either it’ll be more attraction for signings over the summer, extra revenue for PSR and it could also help persuade players to stay.

All this talk of “it would mean nailed-on relegation next season” is a load of tosh. It’s the same negativity we heard when everyone had us finishing dead last this season.

The costs of particpating in the Conference League are barely covreed by the additional income, and are far outweighed by the 15% lower spensing cap.

The scenes in the SoL next week if we win and end up in Europe will be euphoric. There’ll not be a man, woman or child walking out worried about next season. It’ll be unadulterated excitement.

I f***ing hope it happens

My view is that you have to win as many games as possible and finish as high as possible. A win on Sunday guarantees a double over Chelsea, beating the mags in the table and a top 9 finish. That would be a huge achievement. If it also qualifies for Europe, then you try to adapt to the increased workload while prioritising the league next season.

Fuck the naysayers. You only live once.

I say let’s give it our best and if we get it then “in Reg we trust”, if we don’t then “it wasn’t meant to be this year, but what a great year it has been”

No way would this ownership turn down success on account of it coming too soon.

The problems of a bigger squad aren't insurmountable. We're going to have to strengthen this summer anyway and if we're dipping into the "experienced pro " market extra first team opportunities will be a bonus.
Anyway.....gotta beat Chelsea first 😱

Can't believe I'm asking this but there's a few lads in work this morning saying we shouldn't be looking to win on Sunday as if we qualify for europe it all but guarentees relegation next year...

Just wondering if anyone shares the same opinion? For me it's a no brainer, opportunities like this don't come around often and we should be snapping the hands off it.
Were we not all but guaranteed relegation this year?

dinnar, were you ?

you just said you wanted frig all to do with europe
I don't really. Not the Conference at least.
2 days off work (Thursday/ Friday)

Fly out Thursday morning, sitting in a piazza somewhere in eastern Europe in the sun, drinking cheap beer surrounded by Sunderland fans and friendly but bewildered locals, match on the evening, spend the next day having a look about and fly home Saturday morning.

I'm already there in my head
This is starting to win me over though....

I must admit, I had the assumption in me head that the drop off was a lot more obvious.

Ok - not many teams have been relegated, but plenty wind up bottom half, and then find themselves in more trouble a season or two later.

We need to take the opportunity while its there next season we could have a stinker and finish 17th and never get the chance again, we need to recruit well in the summer and get extra bodies in to cover for the extra games if we dont get Europe then its still been a fantastic season either way nobody seen this coming.

The same people said promotion would guarantee relegation and wanted so stay down. Or that we had no right to get out of league one or that a relegation would be a good reset, twice. Best to ignore them. We should always aim as high as possible.

The Europa would be fantastic, the conference not so much. There is an argument to say it would affect us too much for little gain. Not too worried either way, been a rediculously good season whatever happens. As I’ve got a hefty bet on top ten that’s more important for me 😊

I would have preferred us to have a more European league ready squad and the extra financial issues are a concern. If we were still under PSR I would feel more comfortable but the SCR rules especially Uefas lower limit will be a struggle.

Realistically if we qualify I can see us having to sell 1 maybe 2 of the star players. While I don’t want to, it’s the only way I see us being able to spend to money building of squad of players capable of competing both premier league and europe. We would at least 4/5 players good enough to start regularly and probably another 100m in spending.
