Just moved to Chester le Street and that stretch upstream from the riverside park looks very inviting. Anyone know if it’s safe and legal?

You could certainly do it downstream from Coxgreen...there’s always loads of rowers on that section.
Wetsuit job mate...never gets above 15 degrees in there.

Not sure about that section, but the bit that runs through the park has hidden reeds and currents that could pull you under. Several people have died in the river there.
Never seen anyone swim there, likely to get taken out by the rowing club and if they miss you an angry fisherman will get you
This. There are strong currents from the park for a good way upstream. Stay out. It's not safe.
