Just because they don't counter it and score millions of runs off the spinners, doesn't mean they can't play it.

I didnt say they couldnt play it.

Cook has opened all his life and as such will be use to the ball coming on

Trott has been bought up on South African wickets which are usually fast and bouncy where there is a dearth of quality spinners in general

Its not a criticism

Cook actually plays spin well, he just gets bogged down. Pieterson needs to go back to his 05 method of playing spin. Prior isn't too bad against it either.

If we somehow lose this from here, Strauss needs to shoulder some of the blame with his batting. Cant keep carrying him

i agree.

and i think we will lose this test match.

anything less than a lead of 100 (we might not even reach their score the way things are going) will be a nightmare as we will be batting last.

Trott, and usually Cook.

Pietersen used to be alright against it then suddenly developed a fear of left-arm slower bowlers.

Morgan is a supposed 'specialist' against it.

Id prefer Pietersen to just go and play some shots against the spinners rather then scratting about. At least if he hits a few it scatters the field.

We are carrying him at the moment, and I don't think his captaincy is that incredible that we need to in the long term.

But he deserves time. Certainly the summer ahead.

But he needs runs before next winter.

He's hitting a big problem here as an out of form batsmen, facing what is his general weakness - facing slow bowlers on docile, turgid pitches. He needs runs but to do that he's going to need to really work hard as he's always been a batsmen who is much stronger with the ball coming onto the bat.

Having said that, he's always been a cricketer to come back strong in the face of adversity and I'd not be shocked to see him do it again, he's just that type of character.

I forgot how quick the scoring rates have been in these 2 tests, maybe we should adopt a T20 approach for the next test and see if Darren Maddy can come over and open.

Essex Boy is spot on. Strauss was pathetic. It absolutely set the tone. It allowed Pakistan to swarm all over us.

They had no runs to play with it all. One decent partnership where we looked to move the scoreboard would have won the game.

Our running between the wickets is laboured. We never seem to try and force the issue.

Michael Vaughan called it early on in the innings. No way would we have played like that with him in charge.

Boycott summed it up best. We "fannied around".

I can understand these points but at no point has anyone scored quickly on these pitches, it's unreasonable to expect Strauss to go out and score quicker than anyone else on a 4th day pitch against fair quality spin. It's a lot harder than it looks to go out on those pitches and score quickly.
