Has the teams success over the last 18 months masked what is turning into a liability at the top of the order.

Would anyone else in the team get away with 1 test 100 in 2.5 years?

There is strong clamour for Morgan to be dropped but the weak link is Strauss

How long do you give a captain marvel who contributes little with the bat, surely a skipper needs to hold down his place on merit

That First Test result was entirely predictable - slow pitch, general frailty against spin. We are also likely to spring back in the second.

... It's Pietersen I wonder about.

175 and double hundred in our summer, has also played IPL, if KP has a poor series we wont win a test

Strauss, Cook and Trott arent comfortable against spin and as the top three set the tone for our innings, its a big concern

Pietersen average over 80 in 2011. he is the least of our worries.

Definitley, important not to have short memories here. Strauss' form over the last year of so is average, particularly compared to the rest of the batsmen in the side. He is however a fine captain and has proven himself at test level over a long period of time, so no need to press panic buttons yet.

Michael Vaughan? He averaged around 30 in the second half of his test career.
Mike Brearley poor test batsman but England a better side with him in than not

Averaging 41 which is the equivalent of 35 in old money.

Average batsman who is being carried

Cook will be next skipper

Cook will.

But surely we want him to just bat? And little reason, apart from being reasonably eloquent, to suggest he will make a good captain.

Who opens? Seriously question, not having a go at all...

Not many stand out openers in England atm, all wicketkeepers (times have changed)
off the top of my head, Carberry, Hales, Taylor (has opened last year at times).
Hales struggles with spin, Carberry is past 30, and Taylor is a middle order batsmen.
Simple decisionn to replaceMorgan with Bresnan, promoting Prior and playing 5 bowlers in future.

depends on whether Broad becomes the best player in world cricket

has ability to end with career stats of 25 bowling and 35 batting average which will mean he could bat 7

tidied
despite having a test ton, he never looks solid at the crease unlike Bresnan for me. Not sure about him batting 7 unless he does a Dan Vettori with the bat.

its probably more due to his height that he looks ungainly at times, class player

Trott, and usually Cook.

Pietersen used to be alright against it then suddenly developed a fear of left-arm slower bowlers.

Morgan is a supposed 'specialist' against it.

Trott and Cook are two of the worse. Trott especially often gets bogged down against it
