What a shock that he would go to Stoke after what he has done so far with you.
When Stoke rang and said we would like to talk to your manager why didn't your club just say no.

Sustainable deliverables for stakeholder engagements or something. Innit.

It has to be as close as done as possible surely.

To leave his current squad in limbo 24 hours before a massive game when really we should be getting ready for final preparations says it all
About him....I won't say good luck..hope he fails and hope we find a good manager. He is gonna be one infamous son of a bitch in our history

Contractually obliged are the big words in that statement. Club had no choice and Neil probably made sure that was a part of his contract.

I genuinely cannot believe this. This is most Sunderland thing I’ve ever seen happen. The fact that he’s driving down there now means it’s over for him here, even if the club statement just said they want him to stay
Just another thing for our rap sheet. Allardyce being poached because Harry Kane was on corners, only to get sacked after 1 game. Ricky Alvarez, Rodwell, Ndong etc.

Its our brand.

The presser isn't going to go ahead is it?

The club will typically say nothing and the first we'll hear about it is Stoke announcing that he's joined them.

The club will then hoy out a cobbled together statement along the lines of "SAFC can confirm that Alex Neil has decided to join Stoke City as their new manager. The club would like to place on record our appreciation to Alex in successfully guiding us out of League One. The process to appoint a new Head coach will start immediately. Mike Dodds and Michael Proctor will take charge of first team duties for our forthcoming clash with Norwich City tomorrow lunchtime"

🙄
If those 2 take charge, change forthcoming clash to forthcoming defeat

I know people are going to say “it’s our own fault for not sorting the contract out” etc.

But ha’way man, Stoke? Really?

If it was a premier league job, or an international job, or a club that he grew up supporting, or even like a massive pay day in China or whatever I’d half understand why you’d want to at least speak to them.

The comments on the Costa Rican lad also. They were as lukewarm as they could have been. Neil wanted players for the here and now and they delivered a boy with no experience and not an English speaker to fanfare.
We buy players for the club first and foremost…the squad as it stands now is competing in the top 5 of the Championship…if he can’t manage a squad like that then he can go fuck himself at Stoke who are sitting 21st!!
