Im more bothered about fannies being offended on their behalf. Correct who cares about them when we have positivity, so out of all of the positives in that interview, you were the one that came out with one perceived negative. The overall positivity seemed to have passed you somewhat. The mags were the first thing on your mind

I couldn't have put it better myself and had exactly the same feelings when I moved up to the North East late 1973. In those days I went to both Roker and Sid James to watch football and the difference in atmosphere at the grounds was noticeable even then. Roker was a much more comfortable experience for me as a neutral at the time in those days and partly because of that Sunderland quickly became my new team. I loved going to Roker

I think it’s a worry that they haven’t got a structure and by the sounds of it, no plans to either. It’s a multi million pound company with no structure other than them 2 doing things on the hoof. That’s a concern

Well I suppose we were hearing similar things to a point at the start of last season from Bain and Grayson, but because it had no foundation it quickly got lost and we realised it was spin and bullshit. By the looks of things these two are actually taking action now to ensure the club is in better shape so it can engage with the fan base again. Hopefully this time we reap the rewards of it on and off the pitch.

Very true. It's something I've often wondered about. Geographically we're only a few miles apart, but with regard to the aspects you mentioned we may as well be on separate continents. It's inexplicable and reflects badly on the region as a whole.

I couldn’t be more optimistic with everything they’ve said so far tbh, just thought the bit about Newcastle being an arrogant club (which I agree with!) wasn’t needed when were on this high at the minute. They wernt on my mind at all until they were mentioned.

He doesn't quite say that though. He said other people will have the structure, but they often make decisions on the hoof.

Fair dos, but it has to be taken into context. He’s an outsider who needs to ingratiate himself with us, even from a business point of view. He mentions them in passing, but the whole of the interview was full of positivity, the fact that he calls them arrogant doesnt devalue the overall sentiment. I honestly couldnt give a rats arse if he ruffled a few of their feathers. We have been miles behind them in the PR stakes and this bloke is a breath of fresh air.

Naturally you feel that way as the club over the past decade has conditioned you to feel that way. There are bound to be bumps along the way because the way these two lads have been talking they have set the bar of expectation very high, perhaps too high. However I do feel a lot more excited and confident about the future than I have since just before BSA left for the England job when things appeared to be on the up. Then Iceland beat England and I knew we were fucked. It was one of those "it could only happen to Sunlun" moments. Especially as BSA would lose the bloody job three months later!!!

These lads seem to know what they are doing and are keen and enthusiastic about all the right things. Some of Charlie's comments are sure to be PR as that is what he does very well and would be stupid not to deploy his skills in the situation, but I am sure he is genuine in the overall message he is putting across.

For me this mags arrogance goes back to their Cup run of 1974 when their fans not only thought they had the power to influence football matches that weren't going well by invading the pitch ie. v Forest in the 6th round, they also thought they were going to easily repeat our feat of lifting the cup. I think their spanking by Liverpool in the final was a joy to behold. They absolutely toyed with them

He is, and so is Donald, and I can’t wait for next season already if we’re going to have the crowds back and a bit of optimism. As I’ve said I’m loving everything they’re saying so far, as long as it’s about us ;)
