Alnwick passed fit

I think most people are just amazed at the stunt pardew has tried to pull (assuming he wasn't really injured, which it certainly seems that way) which won't have done the lads confidence any good at all and shows pardew up as desperate. I doubt much would have been said about on here today if it wasn't for a this 'emergency keeper' carry on. None of this guarantees us a win of course, a fact of which I'm we aware, but it does seem to show Pardew as bricking it, which I hope transfers to their players.
Exactly. In addition to the lack of credibility for the stunt he was trying to pull, it could have horrifically back fired because in the event of making a loan claim to the FA, he may have had to exclude an uninjured Alnwick from the squad on Sunday just to corroborate his lie, and end up with a 17 year old kid in goal.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Utterly hilarious and pathetic. On Thursday morning, Pardew said that Alnwick was injured and that they would approach the FA for a loan. Later that night, no loan is granted, and Alnwick (who was ruled out injured about 10 hours earlier) makes an instant recovery and is declared fit! :)

It's such a blatant attempt at brinkmanship that they should be fined/make Alnwick sit the game out, as they declared him unavailable.

If we attacked and shot a bit more I'd see some advantage to be gained by Alnwick's presence. But we don't. We have only scored 1 in open play in last 6 is it? And that was kicked off wickham.

On the other hand, in the 3 away games since Southampton we have played Palace, Leicester & Liverpool - scored 3, conceded 1 (an own goal) and taken 5 points.

I think we've done well away from home since the Saints game, although in retrospect if we'd shown a little more ambition against Liverpool and Leicester we could have won.

Trouble is, everyone seems to be thinking Alnwick playing for them equals a win for us.

However, the amount of shots we have on target each game suggests that won't make one iota of difference.

It's going to be a tough, tough game, and we need to be really on our game if we're going to get anything.

I must admit I'd take a point quite happily right now.

We didn't need more ambition at Leicester, we had 2 great chances to win it, we just didn't take them.
2 great chances? Fletcher's and ...
Creating 2 chamces against the worst team in the league is nothing to boast about.
It's Poyet's system - be pragmatic, defensive, hope you don't concede, create a chance or two, hope to god you score.
If we'd shown ambition against Leicester we'd have created 5-6 great chances and converted one or two.

And conceded 1 or 2 perhaps.
I agree with what you're saying to an extent, but bottom half teams playing away from home should be happy with a point, and generally do not create half a dozen great chances per game. In tight games, you get 1 or 2 good chances, and you have to take 1. We have no divine right to beat anybody away from home.

I can't remember exactly who had the other chance(s) that day, but aside from Fletcher's great chance, we had at least another 1 or 2 attempts that could have gone in.

Johnson had a good shot in the first half that was well saved, but I wouldn't describe that as a great chance.

I was happy with a point, but again, in hindsight we could/should have won, and v Liverpool; both were there for the taking.

Anyway, think we both agree that we're not creating many chances at present!

And if we're not creating many chances, Alnwick's presence is neither going to be here nor there.

Lets not get too arrogant and start sounding like the mags eh? Alnwick might be shaky but knowing Sunderland he might just have a blinder on sunday (hopefully not though!!!)!

Since

When did we have more than 2/3 efforts on goal ?
makes no difference at all - wud rather colo out.

Well, we scored 3 at Palace & 3 at home to Stoke. We had 5 shots on target at Leicester, 4 on target against WHU (and missed an open goal), 4 on target against Everton...
