Alexandre Mendy (transfer rumour)

Sunderland clearly had a valuation of him. And they appear to be taking the piss so Sunderland have pulled out. Seems fair and sensible to me.

Club need to sign a striker, so they're signing a striker. People have become so obsessed they're just raging it's not him.
Taking the piss? He’s their player and they want to keep him.Hows that taking the piss?

Agree. Sometimes it’s important to establish a precedent; offer we think the player is worth not always what the selling club want. When you’ve agreed a deal you can’t let the other club keep asking for more and more

I’d rather miss out on 1 player than have every club try and hold us to ransom. Hopefully sends a message to other clubs

Imagine the uproar if Sunderland did what our fans expect other clubs to do by just accepting offers.

Another one excusing our lack of ambition
You must have said the ambition word about 10 times in the last few pages, so I’m just going to link my last post rather than type it again.

It’d be interesting to see if you were one of those who hoyed out the “just pay him what he wants” line about Ross Stewart too. Easy to say in hindsight, but the club are £10m plus a huge amount of wages better off by using budget restraints rather than just paying what people want “showing ambition”

So he’s shit now then 😂 you e gotta love the mental gymnastics some do mind. Has this new lad I Russia had more than two prolific seasons ? I mean that means he’s shit no if?.
No I'm not saying he's shit I'm just adding a bit perspective. He's had a good couple of seasons recently but he'd hardly been a goal machine his whole career.

I reckon we'll still get him imo. It's all smoke and mirrors, who released this to the press for example...

Bring Isidor in then, if required, negotiate from a position of strength- too many on here just don’t understand how it works.

Caen were always going to be playing hardball while they knew we were desperate, but we’ve now got the upper hand in negotiations.

Aside from this basic business strategy, it should also be pointed out that nobody on here had heard of Isidor 16 hours ago and we have apparently signed him so it’s clear that we have no idea on what is happening behind the scenes in terms of ambition.

I mean they were incredible unlucky with a deal being agreed and then a brand new owner coming in.

The frenchies are clearly f***ing us about, you have to leave eventually like. You could call it panicked, or we had another lad lined up as back up which is forward planning, who knows.

Or we're playing the game. If that's the case then the frenchies are losing the upper hand each day this drags on. They'd of hoped we started shit so we were panicking, we weren't. They'd of hoped we didn't have an adequate replacement so we needed him, we have Mayenda and now the lad from Russia.

Remember they have already bought in his replacement, so us pulling out could really fuck them over financially.
His replacement cost nowt, he wanted to come here but what if the other interested clubs have offered Caen more money it’s no different to our stance on Clarke we have a value that needs to be met before he goes, regardless of his wishes.

The new lad linked hasn’t played much has he?. Bit of a strange slight on a player like, he hasn’t played as he’s trying to leave the club.
But played all the same. He’s match fit.

Mendy has been training on his own, no pre season matches. They’re at least 4 weeks apart in match fitness I’d say.

Well it was all agreed until the takeover by all accounts so can't have been that bad.
That’s because they needed the money no? Bit like when the cockney wide boys started flogging all the china. Money on the table looks way better when it’s needed for the wider picture of the club. That pressure was removed when they got took over and looks like the new owners were shocked their prized asset was going to be sold so cheaply.

Was clear as day when Isidor news came out that we wouldn't be signing Mendy like.
Just 2 years ago we had both Ellis Simms & Ross Stewart as regulars in the 1st team squad.

We need 2 decent strikers, especially given these potential new signings will have to adjust to the Championship.

Mayenda & Hemir have a lot to learn & Rusyn clearly isn’t a no. 9.

If ‘lessons have been learnt’ then we should be bringing them both in.

Caen signing a new striker to replace him and now they would be left with very unhappy player.

We won't pay over the odds and have made our final offer.

Love a good saga.

btw. i think this'll still happen.
Knowing our luck, Sampdoria will swoop in now and take him on the cheap after Caen shit themselves about losing the money and having to keep an unhappy player.

If only we'd got the crystal ball out. Could have saved us all that time and effort.
