Alexandre Mendy (transfer rumour)

If this mega rich lot can't afford 5m for a player then we've gone as far as we can with them.

There's probably not a club in this league thats not losing moneyat's part and parcel of football ownership these days. If they dipped in their deep pockets for some lose change for a decent striker, its possible they'd see upwards of a 100m in prize money and more in sponsorship deals come into the club.

It's the club that can't afford it, it does come with being in the championship, thankfully we have folk writing it off as it stands.

At what point do we either stump up or move on to other targets?

2030 seems a popular date, maybe then?
Short could afford to spend loads on players, doesn’t mean it was a good idea in a lot of cases. 5m for a 30 y/o with no resale value is ott.

2.5m and 2m for Rusyn and Hjelde is ott. I think its questionable how much 'resale value' some younger signings will have given by coming here they'll often have trebled or quadrupled their wages, then done little so may only be wanted by those from where they first came from, who then probably can't afford them.

Whilst no one's advocating going out and spending 5m on a 30 year old 2nd tier striker at the moment. We also have to look at what value they give on the pitch over the course of their contracts.

Sorry like, but the person i replied to is on the Alexandre Mendy thread saying if they won't spend 5m they can't take us any further. So yes, some people are advocating for that.

In normal circumstances, yes. However, if that €5M striker scores 15-20 goals and gets us promoted, is he not worth it? Even if he leaves on a free at the end of his contract, he's shown his worth.

It does sound a lot but these have identified this lad as the solution to the long-standing problem and they spent that on 3 utter punts last season.

Sounds ok in theory, but this is a foreign player with no experience in English football so it is a risk saying he will score 15-20 goals and even if he did that wouldn’t guarantee promotion.
It looks great when it comes off but terrible when it was like Grigg and he ended up leaving on a free.

Still think he will be here like. Makes sense for both parties. The closer it gets the more Caen will cave imo. No way they keep an unhappy player when mbappe has just taken over

That’s just my thoughts anyway

Caen just signed a new midfielder and their local paper says: "Next objectives for the SMC recruitment unit and coach Nicolas Seube: players with an offensive vocation, both in the centre, to replace Alexandre Mendy who is still keen to join Sunderland, and on the wings."
Nick Barnes says it's not happening

I could afford to bet x 1000's of pounds with the bookies to make substantially more, which would be nice, but I don't, because gambling isn't in my nature, I'm happy with my lot. I want us to spend money on players, I want us to buy better players and I want us to improve ... but if they won't gamble then I can't really get irate.

So you think sticking a bet on is comparable to owning a football club?? Ffs 😆

Don't even know why I've bothered replying to such utter cack!

Short didn't have a clue what he was doing, hence sacking a coach every season and ending up with 60 overpaid players on the books. If you actually read my posts I didn't say spend 5m on Mendy.

It's pointless burying your head in the past. It's a great excuse to never move on.

Are you blind or is your head stuck that far up the clubs f#cking arse?

I didn't say they should buy Mendy for 5m
